Exchange 2007 Distribution Group Manager not able to do anything....
Hi All,I ran in a new problem AND I can't find a similar problem on teh net soooo i'm here again. My Exchange2007 on Win2003 is working quite well (until im setting up the new ones on Win2008 in CCR) but now my Distribution Group Managers tried toadd new Members to their specific groups or remove old ones but they are not allowd to do so.I thought that thats exactly why there is such a manager. I can not modify the properties or rights for the manager somehow (or at least I couldn't figure out where)So hopefully you can help me with that. The DGM's tried it through outlook2007 and entourage08 they get a message like "Permission Denied".any idea?yours sincerelySn00kumSUsers are like bacteria. Dear customer: I am a little confused about the following words: but now my Distribution Group Managers tried to add new Members to their specific groups or remove old ones but they are not allowd to do so. Please send the exact screenshot of the error to v-rocwan@microsoft.com for analyze. Or you can describe your concern more clearly. Do you mean the ReportToManagerEnabled parameter settings for distribution groups or dynamic distribution groups. If so, you can look at the following article: Understanding Recipient Resolution http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430743.aspx Set-DistributionGroup http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124955.aspx when you send e-mail to me, please let me know the URL of the post. The Managed By setting in Exchange only sets the option to display that group's manager when you look at the group in the address book. In order for that person to be able to change the distribution group membership, you will need to add the permissions in AD.You can do this by opening the properties of the group in Active Directory Users and Computers, then going to the Managed By tab, and then check the box that says "Manager can update membership list". Then that user can modify group membership. You can also add explicit permissions for othersto modify the group membership by in the Security tab of the group properties, then Advanced, then Add desired user, then Edit the permissions of the added user, go to Properties tab, and give them Write Members allow permission. This is really what the checkbox on the Managed By tab does for the manger anyway.Hope this helps.Lee Owens
