Exchange 2007 Deleting Emails Older Than 30 Days -- One Mailbox Only
If you go to Recover Deleted Items how far back are the items listed? Also, is there a custom view on that folder? To show only the past 30 days of emails?
Check the user settings for deleted item retention. -

Have you tried a new Outlook Profile? Have you viewed the mailbox in OWA to see if the items are missing there?JAUCG

Hi Jaucg. Deleted items recovery shows 0 emails deleted. There is no custom view on and OWA shows exactly what is in the mailbox. I have not tried to do recreate the Outlook profile. The deleted item retention is set for database
defaults, which is the same option that everyone else has.
I'm curious, how does ActiveSync work with removing emails on the server? I'm thinking that the iphone is removing emails from the deleted items folder that are older than 30 days, but its not showing up in the deleted items recovery. If so,
does deleted items recovery only work when items are removed from the deleted folder in Outlook or OWA?

Hello.
I'm experiencing an issue where one user's deleted items folder is deleting emails older than 30 days. This started to happen a few weeks ago. I checked her Outlook for auto archive, but it was turned off globally and for each folder.
Nothing has changed on the Exchange 2007 server, and its the only mailbox affected. She has a few rules, but none of them point to that folder. The inbox/subfolders, and sent folder are not affected. We do have a deleted items
recovery retention period of 15 days, but none of the emails can be retrieved despite them going missing the previous day. Also, there are no retention policies set up on the server for this user or anyone regarding the deleted items folder. Any
suggestions? The user does have an iphone and ipad connected to exchange, if that does help in finding a solution. Thanks

No, not any policies preventing them from doing anything. Ill take a look at the iphone. I found some information relating to pop and imap accounts. I'm wondering if the deleted emails are going to a local storage on the Iphone.
Thanks for the information!

Usually the only way to bypass the Delete Items folder and Deleted Items Recovery is through a hard delete. Now I don't know if the iPhone would do that by default, but have you looked at the iPhone settings for anything related to Removing messages?
I don't have an iPhone, but I would suspect there is a setting under advanced in your mail profile relating to this.
Also, do you have an ActiveSync policy set up for your users?
** If OWA and Outlook match, then the emails are indeed gone. Don't worry about creating a new profile. Take a look at the iPhone configuration. Also, if nothing looks out of place there, you can always recreate the mail profile on
the iPhone.

I am seeing this same issue with one of our users. Not sure if more are affected. Did you ever find the cause for this?
