Exchange 2007 Console and Outlook showing different mailbox sizes
We are using Exchange 2007 SP1 and Outlook 2007 SP2 (cached mode). Our users have 100/ 110/120 MB quota limit on their mailbox (warning/send/send + recv)An issue props up whereby a user goes over their send quota (e.g.by recving a large attachment) and cannot send an email. That's fine. They then delete the attachment and perform cleanup, and the Outlook Folder Size is about 90MB.They then try and send a mail, however they cannot since apparently their quota has been exceeded. Even if they wait for 2 hours, they still recv this message. According to Exchange, the mailbox size is still 112MB, however according to Outlook it is 90 MB.The solution seems to be remove cached mode, let the mailbox sync with the server, and then re-enable cached mode, however this is becoming an issue since it's affecting larger numbers of people.Has anyone experienced this and know of a fix (either on the server or client side). Thanks in advance.

This is normal Exchange Bahaviour in cached mode. Never heard of any fix on this. My understanding OL keeps the configuration for a while before getting the new settings from exchange. As soon as you sync the OL with exchange by removing the cached mode, it gets updated and you can send emails.Raj

Thanks Rajnish, but how long do we wait? As mentioned above, we waited more than 2 hours for Outlook <> Exchange changes to sync in Cached mode and there was no joy. Plus, we didn't have these problems with Exchange 2003?

I am not sure on the timing. May be you can create a test mail box, keep it logged in on cached mode and see what is the tioming reqd. for getting updated.Raj

Hi Yoshi, Firstly, please check whether following registry key exists for the mailbox database: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<ServerName>\<Database GUID> "Background Cleanup" = DWORD: 0000ea60 "Background Search" = DWORD: 00001388 "General Event Log" = DWORD: 00000000 "Transport Event Log" = DWORD: 00000000 For more information regarding the key: Mailbox sizes or folder sizes are incorrect in Exchange System Manager, Move Mailbox operations are unsuccessful, and "unread receipt" messages are not delivered in Exchange 2000 Server or in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891789/en-us In addition, please let me know if you create an Online Mode Outlook Profile, whether the mailbox size shows in Outlook is same as EMC. If still not, please run MFCMapi tool to log on the Online Profile 1. Run MFCMapi tool and logon the Online Profile 2. Select the Mailbox-user and check the PR_Message_Size property, whether the value of PR_Message_Size is about 112MB 3. If yes, please double click Mailbox-user to open the mailbox and check the PR_Message_Size Property for Root Container folder and Top of Information Store folder Note: In Top of Information Store folder, you should have 0 messages. In Root Container folder, on my lab, I have only two messages regarding OOF about 18KB. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
