Exchange 2007 CMS SCC install watermark issue
I am preparing to upgrade my environment from Exchange 2007 SP1 to Exchange 2007 SP3 and in preparation have run the ExBPA on all my servers. Some of them, SCC clustered mailbox servers have an error of "ClusteredMailboxServer is partially configured". After doing some research, I found that for whatever reason, setup did not complete "properly", even though I do not recall this being indicated during the setup. I think what may have happened is that as part of the SCC setup when the CMS is first brought online, the disk dependencies do not exist and they "fail" because the db does not mount. You fix this, and everything is fine. I have been up and running for years, even installing the update rollups without issue. I am on UR9 for SP1. I found this good blog which explains the issue and what to do, I just have some questions about the syntax of the commands to use before I do it. http://blogs.technet.com/b/timmcmic/archive/2009/09/21/clusteredmailboxserver-is-partially-configured-exbpa.aspx The command for re-running setup is as follows: setup.com /newCMS /cmsName:%CMS Name% /cmsIPAddress:%ip address% What I am not sure about is CMSName and cmsIPAddress. Are these the CLUSTER name and CLUSTER IP addresses or the name of the clusteredmailboxservers and their associated IP's. For instance in my environment, I have a SCC called "EXCLCC" (4 node, 3 active, 1 passive), inside that I have 3 CMS's named CMS1CC, CMS2CC, CMS3CC. Each physical server has an ip address 10.21.3.151-154, the CMS IP's are 10.21.3.161-163, the cluster IP is 10.21.3.150, the passive node is usually the .154 box. All 3 CMS's inside my cluster are showing this "partially configured" issue due to the setup watermark. I had planned to issue the following commands to allow setup to complete. setup.com /newCMS /cmsName:CMS1CC /cmsIPAddress:10.21.3.151 setup.com /newCMS /cmsName:CMS2CC /cmsIPAddress:10.21.3.152 setup.com /newCMS /cmsName:CMS3CC /cmsIPAddress:10.21.3.153 The passive node is apparently fine. Also, one more thing, do I need to uninstall the update rollups prior to running setup?

CMSName: Its cluster mailbox server name which outlook clients will use to connect it, Virtual name of active mailbox server in SCC. CMSIPaddress: IP address of cluster mailbox server (CMSName IP address) Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

Ok, thanks. In this particular cluster, I have 4 nodes, 3 active, 1 passive. I have the watermark issue on each one, so I will run the setup 3 times, each time using the different CMS name and cms "vip" ip address of the CMS.

As Anil said, CMS is the Virtual Server which your client connects to. You can't run setup with different CMS Name. If you run is using different name it will fail. Did you tried upgrading any one of the servers? You got the right TechNet Blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/timmcmic/archive/2009/09/21/clusteredmailboxserver-is-partially-configured-exbpa.aspx Post the update.
