Exchange 2007 CAS installation in Exch 2k3 org
We have an existing Exchange 2003 server handling both FE and BE roles on a single server. We are preparing for a transition to Exchange 2007 and would like toseparate the CAS role on its own server. We will then install the rest of the necessary roles on the new mailbox server. Since we don't have a dedicated FE server in the environment, can we simply install the CAS role first to talk to the existing 2003 mailboxes and then install the new mailbox server? In terms of user experience, will all users be able to access their mailbox through OWA by going to the new CAS server for both 2003 and 2007 mailboxes? Is there anything that we need to change on the 2003 server with regards to the existing OWA during the transition period? It sounds like I can just create a new DNS record like owa.domain.com to point to the new CAS (existing one is mail.domain.com).Thanks for your help,Derek

If you install the 2007 CAS server it will allow users with 2007 mailboxes to login. Users with 2003 mailboxes will be proxied or redirected back to the 2003 OWApage. HI, Agree with mike.Future more. You can use Http://mail.domain.com/Exchange on the CAS server to access Exchange 2003 mailboxes."/Exchange" virtual directory able to proxy your requestsfor Exchange 2003 mailbox server to appropriate exchange 2003 Backend server, then user will see Exchange 2003 OWA experience. Also the "/Exchange" virtual directory will redirect OWA requests for exchange 2007 mailboxes to the "/OWA" virtual directory. Refer below Articles Resources Outlook Web Access and Exchange 2007, 2003 and 2000 coexistence Managing Outlook Web Access Virtual Directories in Exchange 2007 Regards Chinthaka
