Exchange 2007 : 2 sites - 2 Exchange Servers needed
Hi all, My employer bought another companie and it is in an other city. So for better performance, we need a second Exchange server. So it should be 1 server per site. With this situation, we will also use the synchronization between both server just in case something happen. Is there a better way to proceed? Is there a procedure for that kind of situation?Best regards,Johnny

Hi Johnny,Firstly, we need to know what is the version of exchange server you are using. You can implement either one of your requirement (A seperate server for users in that site dedicated for load or a disaster recovery server). If exchange server 2003, it is possible to have the server in the same organization but you can't have the second server as a Disaster Recovery server. Both servers will be different servers in different sites. In exchange server 2007, yes! It is possible to have your plan accomplished if you are running it on windows server 2008. You can have multi site clustering. You will have users in both the servers but one will be in use. For exchange 2007 what you should be looking for is SCR or (Standby Copy Replication) SCR don't need Enterprise version of Windows nor Exchange, the only drawback is that SCR failover process is not automatic which is sometimes really a PLUS in a cross site configuration http://msmvps.com/blogs/ehlo/archive/2008/01/08/1447442.aspxFull time IT consultant since 1998 mainly on Exchange\ISA\AD MCSE NT4.0,2000/2003, CCNA MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 MCT since 2001

Yes, you can, by introducing one box (MBX/CAS/HT) in each site, and then enable the SCR to replication the databases between them, just like the first figure in this article James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
