Exchange 2007 - replacing mail contacts
Dear helpers, I have done something in the Exchange Managment Console and i cannot understand what happened. I had a mail contact with a Name xxx. This contact was configured with an smtp address of "abc@mail.com" Because it was the wrong address because of the human mistake i have removed this mail contact. Then i created new mail contact with a Name yyy and configured it with "abc@mail.com" I now that i should only modify the Name of the original contact, but that is what happened to me in a hurry. The problem now is when i try to send an e-mail to "abc@mail.com" in the microsoft outlook that e-mail address gets resolved into the name of the original contact Name. Then i get this error when i try to send it to the recipent "abc@mail.com". Hi, I looks like it is because of the cached contact in your Outlook. When you type in the name of the contact Outlook will try and auto-complete the E-mail, if you mark the cached name and press "Delete" and then type in the full E-mail it would probably work just fine. Give it a go, and report back. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Hi That was my first thought also. Actually i do type in the full e-mail address and it does not auto-complete - it just automatically changes to the Original contact name. If i type in the e-mail address into notepad and just copy it into clipboard and then paste it to the new email it does the same thing. I am suspecting there is something wrong in the AD. I restarted the workstation with the outlook and it didn't help. I can reproduce that on other outlook clients also. Thanks, Jus

Hi, Did you double check the contact in EMC? Also check the addressbook from Outlook to see if the user is listed under the new name or the old name. Could you try and send a mail through OWA to the E-mail address? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Either the cache is acting up, delete the .nk2 file or you are running in Outlook cache mode and your OAB is not regenerated or downloading correctly.

Hi, I doubled and trippled checked the EMC. ANd the contact in the EMC looks fine. The AD Object contact also seems fine. I sent an e-mail through OWA - i think it works. I haven't got a reply from the recipient yet so i cannot be 100% sure. But there is no error message from Exchange. I also checked the Default Global Address List on OWA - the contact is present there - as it should be. I checked three different Outlook clients. On one client i have the Original contact Name, on the other i have the new contact, and both are acting the same when i enter the email address in the new email - they rename to the Original name. I do not want to delete the .nk2 file yet. Maybe lafontma is right and i am running Outlook cache mode. Is there a way to force a replication of the Global Address Book or something like that? Thanks

In regards to your Global address book, it all depends if you are running Outlook in cache mode or not.. Since it seems to be working thru OWA, most probably you are running in cache mode. If so, you can regenrate the OAB in the Exchange console and then redownload the address book in Outlook. Verify for any sync errors in Outlook when you tru to download it. If you dont want to delete the nk2, well you have an issue because it will always resolve to the old contact until you get rid of that entry in the nk2. In outlook 2007/2010 you can delete a single contact from the nk2 when it starts resolving the name

Hi, The issue seems to be with the Offline address book. That it is working and looking correct indicates that the Global Address List is working correct, so try and update the Offline Address Book and check the eventviewer to see if there are any errors. In Outlook you can download the address book under send/receive functions and choose download offline address book and select full download instead of incremental. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

I suggest you add the old legacyExchangeDN X.500 address to the new mailbox as a proxy address to check the result. Hi guys, I appreciate all the help i received from you. I did resolve the issue. I didn't resolve it centrally - on exchange. But locally on the clients. Thanks god i administer only few workstations :) 1.) What i did on outlook 2003 is that when i typed in the email address - and it resolved it to the wrong/old mail contact i deleted it and closed the email address withouot sending. When i created new a-mail again it resolved to the correct mail contact name. When i restart the Outlook it works ok. 2.) I tried that on Outlook 2007 and it didn't work the same way, but very similar. I had to delete the wrong contact name while it was resolving it. Then i closed that email like in Outlook 2003 and typed the email address again and it resolved the correct Contact Name - but when i restarted Outlook 2007 and typed in the e-mail address it again resolved to the wrong/old contact name. then i had to repeat the step's again and i had to SEND an email to the recipient. When i did that it stayed and it resolved to the right contact name also after the restart of the Outlook. So i belive that the lafontma's help was the nearest and it helped the most in my case. Thanks again.
