Exchange 2007 - mail enabled public folders, formatting IPM.NOTE
Hello! Regarding the following article from Microsoft - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817809. The customer had Exchange 2000, and via a registry hack they managed to change content in the Public folder from Post to Note for incoming messages to the public folder. Now we have replicated all public folders to Exchange 2007. Now everything comes as Post. How do we change that back to Note? Regarding the Microsoft article there is nothing that needs to be done. But apparantly we need to do something to "convert" this. Sindre Sindre

I havent seen that in 2007. It's set to ipm.note already. Are there still 2000 public folder servers in the org?

Per my research, there’s no method that can accomplish this in the exchange natively The only workaround that I’ve found is KB 290659: 1. Please refer Method 1 in the KB to download the omsgclass.exe 2. Launch outlook and highlight one of the affected folders 3. Allow the macro to run by opening the document from tool 4. This will provide you with a screen that will allow you to convert all items in the folder to IPM.Note Notes: This will need to be done for each folder one by one Notes: Please don’t use outlook 2010James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Yes. We have replicated the public folders from an Exchange 2000 server to the Exchange 2007 MBX server. We are planning to remove the legacy server soon. We can see that incoming e-mail that is transported through the Exchange 2000 server is correct in the public folder. Incoming mail that are coming through the Exchange 2007 HUB server gets wrong. So the behavior is opposite of what we expected. We will now route all incoming e-mail directly to Exchange 2007, and soon uninstall the old Exchange server. We will see then if the behaviour will change. SindreSindre

The old Exchange 2000 server is now removed. The un-install went fine. Now we have one Exchange 2007 SP3 MBX server and one combined CAS/HUB server 2007 SP3. We still have the same problem. Mail to mail-enabled public folders still come as "POST". How do we change that back to NOTE?Sindre

Further investigations showed that incoming e-mail to the mail enabled PF actually comes as IPM.NOTE. The problem is related to some kind of FORM the customer has integrated with this system. Case closed.Sindre
