This is a "how long is a piece of string" type question. How large are your users' mailboxes? How much email do they send a day? What third-party applications are in use? How many users do you have to support? What type of hardware is available - do you have to repurpose old hardware, or do you have the ability to procure new hardware? What kind of storage do you plan to use? Do you plan to use clustering technology? Is there a reason you plan to deploy Exchange 2007 instead of 2010? Performance increases dramatically with 2010. Hi Team, Thanks for the update.Considering that one has a verry high-end hardware, storage and say no clustering technology to be used. I am trying to find out what is the maximum number of microsoft recommends on a single exchange server 2007 and total no. of emails recommended per mailbox. Microsoft normally suggests minimum requirements and recommended requirements for softwares, similarly i am trying to understand the recommendation for maximum number of mailboxes per server and maximum number of mails recommended in exchange 2007. For now we are not planning to use exchange 2010 Thanks Senthil

The number of mailboxes supported is based on the hardware you are using or planning to use. I have never seen a limit stated by Microsoft that you can not or should not cross. Have you had a look at the storage calculator yet? If not, have a look and see if you find it helpful: http://msexchangeteam.com/files/12/attachments/entry438481.aspx More information on storage design can be found here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb738147(EXCHG.80).aspx A rule of thumb is 1000 average users per processor. And since Exchange 2007 don not make use of more then 8 processors, the recommended limit would be 8000 average users on a 8 processor server. But this is a rule of thumb and you should use the storage calculator to find out the correct number of users for your environment.Martin Sundstrm | Microsoft Certified Trainer | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | http://msundis.wordpress.com
