Exchange 2007 - Public Folder Logging or Tracking?
Please excuse me if this is an ignorant question, but I've been asking and searching for an answer to this for a long time now. I work as the IT guy for a small registry office, using a simple Exchange 2007 setup. Most of the users are using Outlook 2003. We use Public Folders to sort and archive all of the incoming requests for clients. We have somewhere in the range of 2000 public folders. Sometimes messages get put in the wrong folder. What is the best way to search public folders for missing documents. And is there a way to see who moved a message, where it was moved to, and when? If this is totally off track then I would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction to find some help. Thanks!

This would help you to improve public folder search performance. Fast Searching in Public Folders http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2006/02/16/533565.aspx There is a new feature to audit mailbox access in Service Pack 2 but I think it won't for Public Folder to audit the access and movement/deletion of message. Thanks for the response! I have tried out the quest software, and unfortunately it does not support public folder item level auditing. Is what I'm looking for even possible? It seems amazing that this isn't something more people are asking for. I'm beginning to suspect we are using public folders in a rather unconventional way. Thanks again for the swift response! If nothing else, you've helped me to add some more specific context to my needs.

Hummm, I guess its difficult to find a product to log auditing for public folder or not sure even available or not. BTW, mostly people create shared mailboxes for client requests with some smtp address like info@domainname.com or support@domainname.com so it would be easy to keep the track on mailbox with some kind of third party products... Moreover since PF is being deemphasized, third-party also think while investing resources for PF audit rather than SharePoint auditing... :) Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
