Exchange 2007 - Missing or incorrect public folder hierarchies
This is a new Exchange 2007 install, not a migration from 2003.There is only a single server. We noticed that users could not create subfolders underexisting public folders even when they explicitly had owner and/or "create subfolders" right.Went to take a look in adsiedit at the rights on the [administrative group]/folder hierarchies/public folder object and it was missing.Reviewed themsExchOwningPFTree of the single public folder database and it pointed to a non-existent location. it was essentially (working from memory but close..) "cn=public folders, cn=microsoft exchange, cn=configuration..." all of the references to the organization, administrative group, etc was missing. There is no public folders object directly under services/microsoft exchange, so I can't set or verify security.Oddly the public folder store mounts with no issues and the best practices analyzer does not show any issues.I attempted to rebuild the "folder hierarchies" as documented in this technote:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727370.aspx including updating themsExchOwningPFTree attribute of the public folder store and verifying that themsExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute of the public folder tree object was populated. After restarting the information store - the public folder store mounted. But there was no public folder access from outlook clients, the exchange administration tools, etc.I reverted themsExchOwningPFTree attribute of the public folder store back to it's original (incorrect) value and I am back to my broken state of incorrect permissions - but users are able to access public folders. There are very few public folders at this point and I can fairly easily blow away the public folder store and recreate it. But I need to know how to get the folders hierarchies healthy.Thanks.

To solve the missing Folder Hierarchies issue, you may use the answer in this thread What do you mean about But there was no public folder access from outlook clients, the exchange administration tools? Do you say that user cant see public folder tree in the outlook? Is there any error event in the application log?

(sorry about the delayed response)Thanks, that link seemed to be exactly my issue.I have currently just set the permissions via ADSIEDIT so that users can access the public folders as expected.I will be scheduling downtime to correct the AD structure as noted in the link.
