Exchange 2007 - Hub transport server role already installed
I have an Exchnage Server 2007 SP2 with the Mailbox Server and Client Access Server roles installed, running on Windows Server 2008. The Hub Transport Server was previously deinstalled from this server. Now I want to reinstall the Hub Transport Server role but I always get this message: The Hub Transport server role is already installed on this computer. In the file ExchangeSetup I can see those lines: Setup will run the task 'test-setuphealth' [6/21/2011 12:41:27 PM] [1] Setup launched task 'test-setuphealth -DomainController 'dc1.inso.ca' -DownloadConfigurationUpdates $true -ExchangeVersion '8.2.305.3' -Roles 'Bridgehead' -ScanType 'PrecheckInstall' -SetupRoles 'Bridgehead' -TargetDir 'E:\Exchange'' [6/21/2011 12:41:27 PM] [1] Beginning processing. Question: How can I reinstall the Hub Transport Server Role?

Have you tried removing it again?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

When I run Exchange Setup, the option for the Hub Transport Role is cleared (because it really is deinstalled). When I select the role and click Next, it does the prerequisite tests and then tell me that the Hub Transport Server Role is already installed on this computer. Pierre Vachon

Try using the command line. Setup.com /mode:uninstall /roles:HT Setup.com /mode:install /roles:HT Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Can you find anything in the Exchange setup log that might help explain why it's failing the install?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

There is nothing more in the Exchange setup file than what I have sent with my original post. Pierre Vachon

Hi, Use Add/Remove program from control panel and then try to remove the HT role installed if any. And then reinstall HT role on same server running the setup again. You could also check with running EXBPA toll. If issue still persist, then please use ADSIEDIT.MSC to delete the HT server object in AD configuration partation. And then installed HT role running the Exchnage setup again. Thanks, Vidyanand

Add/Remove Programs doesn't exist in Windows Server 2008, and there's no point in using its equivalent, Programs and Features, because you have already tried GUI and command-line setup. Using ADSIEdit to delete an Exchange 2007 Server from Active Directory is unsupported, so do not do that. Even if it were supported, that would not remove only the HT role. Running ExBPA wouldn't hurt anything, and there's an outside chance you might learn something from it. I did think of something else useful, however. Are you running Setup from the Exchange 2007 SP2 media, the version and service pack you are running? Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi Frank, I took a look at the registry and there is no key named HubtransportRole. I only have AdminTools, ClientAccessRole, Hygiene, MailboxRole and Setup. This moring, I rerun the ExchangeSetup to add the Hub Transport Role and 3 files were modified or created: ExchangeSetup.log, PreReqs\ExBPA.201106230844572225.log and PreReqs\ExBPA.201106230844572225.data.xml. What roll up are you on? If you're not on the latest SP2 RU3 install that rollup, reboot then try to re-install. Some work around to this has been to either install any newer rollups or to uninstall the most recent one you have and then try to re-run setup.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

I have resolved the issue. The account I was using did not have sufficient permissions. Domain Admins was not enough, I neede to be an Exchange Organization Administrator.
