Exchange 2007 - How to hide custom address lists from the GAL
Hello, I would like to know of a method that I can allow multiple custom Address lists and users within those address lists to be hidden from the GAL to the point that the end user only sees his/her custom address list, as opposed to the entire GAL. I cannot create multiple GALs, as that is an "unsupported configuration" according to microsoft support, and they will refuse to work with us on any issues once they see multiple GALs. I've also encountered several problems with outlook 2010 clients (reply not working, OAB will not download) when I create multiple GALs, therefore this is not an option. Thanks!Sincerely, Eric L. Multiple GALs is your only option. There is nothing else. Segregated Address Lists are supported with Exchange 2007, as long as you follow the instructions from Microsoft completely. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936719(EXCHG.80).aspx If you want to do something unsupported, then you are on your own. I've followed that white paper to a T and had 5 different techs tell me that the configuration of Multiple GALs is an unsupported configuration, and very very quickly get off of the phone with me after seeing that I had multiple GALs. Segregated address lists and the creation are not a problem, but what I'm finding is that regardless of the permissions I apply I cannot seem to prevent my users from seeing other root address lists. This is the master problem.Sincerely, Eric L. McLain

If you have logged a support call then you should get it escalated as is a supported configuration - but only on Exchange 2007, not 2010. A lot of people don't want to get involved with them (myself included) because it is very easy to get it wrong. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources
