Exchange 2007 - External Contact to External Contact Relay Denied
All;I am having an issue with an email that has been sent to several Mail Contacts with Internet Email Addresses (not within our local domain). When one of these contacts wishes to respond to all parties, the only individuals to receive the message are those that DO have email addresses on our local domain...none of the Mail Contacts receive the email.I should say that other than this, everything on the server works and operates perfectly fine. I do understand this problem well...a non-local individual should not be permitted to relay to another non-local address, otherwise we would have an Open Relay...so the fact that this fails in general is a good thing. I'm curious if there is a setting that would permit the relaying of emails to addresses that are in the GAB, regardless if they are external. If there is another or better way to resolve this issue, let me know. Thanks in Advance, wmcginnis

When the internet recipient (one of the contacts) hits reply to all, his email client is generating a new message to:-the internal sender-other external recipientsif the message doesnt reach the other recipients its because their sending server is not making a connection to the recipients email server, instead it seems to try to send through your email server. we need to identify why this is. are these external contacts using you for SMTP? Mike,The post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/ba07fc1d-a475-407e-8bfe-bf05b619636c) provided a considerable amount of insight. As it turned out, some of our distribution lists (further inspection of the headers showed that the issue was not in sending to Mail Contacts, but to mixed Distribution Lists; sorry for the misinformation) had specific filters asscociated with them, and by either removing the filters or updating thier content, the problem is resolved. Thanks for your post as it made me re-validate my understanding of the issue. Thanks again, wmcginnis
