Exchange 2007: after installation a couple of errors on services
Hello all!I've just installed Exchange 2007 and its Rollup Package 4.After this, I checked in the Event Viewer and discovered that theMS Exchange System Attendant Mailboxis not working. The event ID is 4001, which goes about:Cannot open mailbox /o=SBT/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=SVBEEMA00/cn=Microsoft System Attendant.; Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ConnectionFailedTransientException: Cannot open mailbox /o=SBT/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=SVBEEMA00/cn=Microsoft System Attendant. ---> Microsoft.Mapi.MapiExceptionNetworkError: MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make connection to the server. Hello Flavio Boniforti, Have you got any problem during the installation process? Can you check your Exchange log files to find some error or somehting like that? Is this machine a Global Catalog? Are you running in a lab or a production x64 machine?

Hy Patricio, I've got no problems during installation, except for the fact that I needed to do it twice because of running the installer from a UNC path. After having mapped the path to E: everything went fine. This server ain't Global Catalog server, the GC is still resident on the main DC. I'm running on a production x64 server. Where may I find Exchange log files to check for errors? As you have seen, the errors are the ones that I posted... Thanks in advance...

Hello Stefan,I'm sorry to hear that you're in the same situation, but at the same time I'm happy not to be ALONE :-)Back to our problem: talking to an italian MVP, he told me that this my problem should be due to a corrupt AD schema, which in short terms simply means to REINSTALL the whole domain.WOW!That would be an amazing and risky task, considering that it's a production environment representing the core of a bank!!!Anybody has clues/suggestions/workarounds?Thanks to all.

Flavio !! I tried "just for fun" to start the two services manually and they are running. All the errors are gone. When I reboot the Server the services dont start, but i can start them manually. Maybe there are some dependencys wrong. The two services are set to start automatically two times. Stefan

Well Stefan...I'm used to work on Windows Server Systems and the first things I tried were to start them manually, as you did.I still got the same errors when trying to start them manually. I also read about a possible misconfiguration of the dependencies for one of the services...http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=4001&eventno=8880&source=MSExchange%20System%20Attendant%20Mailbox&phase=1I followed the first suggestion, but the things got worse: the "Transport" Service started to tell me that it couldn't register the SMTP Service, which wasn't happening before that registry edit. Now I'm stuck and I feel that I'll have to recreate the domain...

Flavio, I just posted the same problem to this forum. I guess I should have read your post first. I have success with manually starting the System Attendant and Information Store services from the services applet. I don't have the option of reinstalling my domain, and I must get this system in production very soon. I may be forced to contact Microsoft support to get this worked out. IfI don't find another solution in the next day or so, then I will call them. If it gets resolved, I will post the exact fix to this forum. Robert

I have the exact same problem. There is another thread related to this one here, with luck maybe one of you can find something there: http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpost.aspx?postid=2126439&siteid=17&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1 The exact errors I have are: MS Exchange System Attendant mailbox 4001 MSExchangeSA 1004 MSExchangeSA 1005 MSExchangeIS 5003 Tried the service dependancy thing, the manual start thing, restarted both comps (DC/Exch 2003 and 2007,) re-synchronized the time etc etc etc with no luck as yet. Have to implement Exch 2007 in 2 weeks S Would be nice to at least have 1 working 2007mailbox before then.

Might be a good idea to run the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer! I just ran it to see if it gave me more details on the time sync error. Turns out the time on the DC and on the Exch 2007 were exactly one hour out. The DC had daylight saving time on, but the Exch server didnt. Sorted that out, and re-synced the time. Bobs your uncle, hows your father, managed to start the System Attendant and Information Store services without any bother. Sweet!!!

All times are the same on the servers. Thanks for the suggestion. As you'll read, I am seeing some strange ntp errors. I have noticed that there is another problem in my event viewer. I am getting a couple of messages that seem to show that there is some kind of communication problem between the Exchange server and my domain controllers. I get a 5719 error, which says that the Exchange server can't set up a connection with any domain controllers because there are no logon servers available to service the logon request. I also have some errors regarding NTP and NetBT. So it looks like some communication issues have developed between my Exchange server and my domain controllers. There is 1 DC on the same network as the Exchange server. I have run netdiag and dcdiag and they both come through with no errors. So there doesn't seem to be a communication issue, but the errors show in event viewer. Are you having any issues similar to this? I think that a communication failure between Exchange and the DC might cause some problems. Rob

Flavio, OK, I've fixed all of the errors I was having and the services all start correctly now. The solution was to set up and define a WINS server. I know, it sounds crazy but that's what it took. After I did this and rebooted the Exchange 2007 server, everything worked fine and started cleanly. I'm going to do some reading as to why this was necessary. Robert

Hi I had the same problem with "Information Store" and "Exchange System Attendant". The problem4001 "MSExchange System Attendant Mailbox" appears when you start your Exchange Server before you start your DC. So you must start your DC first. P.S. Sorry for my bad english.
