Exchange 2007: Database move fails but no reason indicated
We attempted to move a DB on a clustered SCC mailbox server to a different volume on the same server, but after about 47 minutes it failed without any indication as to why. Event logs were clean also. The size of the DB in explorer was approx 172 GB and total drive size was about 237 GB. These drives are mountpoint/LUNs attached to a SAN, we were essentially moving the EDB from one volume to another that were on the same SAN device. We had moved a 120GB EDB file from a similarly setup server 2 weeks prior without any difficulties. I know with offline defrags there needs to be 110% free disk but I didn't see any recommendations indicating this as a requirement for a DB move. Free space on the source as well as destination had more than enough to cover the size of the edb. but not 110%. Logs directories were good on free space also. Is there more detailed logging info found somewhere else for DB moves that so that I can try to fix whatever the problem was? We were doing the move with the console, not the shell, if that makes a difference.

If we use EMC to move the database, a status of failed shall occur if the task wasnt completed, along with a summary for an explanation. You didnt see that kind of information? Is there any error event in the application log? Please see cautions under the Detailed Description section at this article Please verify the health of information store with ISINTEG and ESEUTIL If theres no error info, please use cmdlet to move the database with verbose parameter added Move-DatabasePath -Identity "Server01\First Storage Group\First Mailbox Database" -EdbFilePath "D:\DatabaseFiles\First Mailbox Database.edb" verbose How to Set a Database File Location

I have not yet been able to try it again yet, the downtime required for this needs to be fit into our maintenance windows and planned accordingly.
