Exchange 2007
I have a failing exchange 2007 server and have build a new one on a new server with a different server name. From topology all roles are on a single server (both the old one and the new one) and have built the second server in the same way. I have two questions to make the transition simplier for clients: 1. Can I move mailboxes to the new server allowing email to send and receive from both (mx records are pointing to the first server at this time) and how can I do this? 2. Also preventing those using Outlook Anywhere from changing their client side settings, having they automatically update?

1 - messages delivered to the old server will be routed to the new server automatically if that is where the mailbox for a given user lives. 2 - do you mean autodiscover? this will automatically provide the settings based on the location of their mailbox and/or the configuration of outlook anywhere on the 2nd server. Configure outlook anywhere on the 2nd server and this will require no additional mailbox configuration. Also, I should warn you. be sure the old server is properly uninstalled from the AD environment. You cannot just abandon the old server as there are elements within AD that only the uninstaller will clean up. Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!

By the way, if your server hardware has failed, you should first resort to use Setup /m:RecoverServer to recover the Exchange server. Details, please see: How to Recover a Lost Exchange Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123496(EXCHG.80).aspxFrank Wang
