Exchange 2003 upgrade to Ex2010 pre-deployment question
Hi, I am just starting the steps for upgrading to Exchange 2010 from 2003 and i have a question about a warning in the pre-deployment analyzer. My current environment has a single Ex03 server and a m86 spam/virus/etc server between it and the firewall. My goal is a single Ex10 server (client access, hub and mailbox on one server) with e-mails still going in and out of the network via the m86 server. It says, "SMTP is configured to route all messages to a smart host and then says "SMTP instance '*lots of containor info*' is configured to rout all messages via smart host 'xxx.xxx.com.au'. Remove this option if this SMTP instance will be set as the source or target transport server of a routing group connector between Exchange Server 2010 and an Exchange server 2003 routing group" It's a bit of a basic question but, do i keep it or do i remove it? Thanks Ian

If you install exchange 2010 server into the exchange 2003 environment , the first sever that shoudl be installed is the cas server followed by hub and mailbox. cas takes over from exchange 2003 front end server so it is asking you this question a there is a Smart host connected from Exchange 2003 server. you may have to configure the hub server to send the mail to the smarthost.

Thanks guys, So it's basicly saying, "I am currently using a smart host and do i want the CAS server to recive via the smart host and the HUB server to send via the smart host". The answer is yes to both so i should leave it as is. Thanks. Ian
