Exchange 2003 upgrade to 2007... How in the world do I do this?
Ok, this may seem like a real amature question, but I'm an amature so its cool... I have a singleExchange 2003 Serverrunning just fine. I recently installed anewserver with Exchange 2007. How do I get my users mailboxes from the 2003 to 2007 server? Important Notes: -Both servers are stand alone -both servers are at the same location -each server has its own domain (long story, but were changing the domain with this new server) -each server is on an independent network of each other, they can currently only communicate via the interent (can put them on the same network, but I dont know how to make one server the DC controller, i would expect AD errors,,, so to keep it simple, we seperated them. -we have about 50 users -we can bring the whole system down for a weekend if nessassary, no big deal... Does anyone know how I can export the mail boxes an reimport them on 2007? ML

Creating a new domain is probably the best way anyway, so far not bad at all for an amateur. Its ahuge amountof work but still the best way. You will have to move every workstation from the old to the new domain and create/restore the user profiles (reinstall printers etc). Time consuming but doable for 50 users in one weekend. Expect to be exhausted sundy night. You will make a couple of mistakes (forget to install a printer -that sort mistake)so monday will be hell but you will survive. What I would do with the mailboxes is toexport them with Exmerge to PST files. The current version of Exchange 2007 does not supportimporting from PST files(SP1 will support it but that is of no use to us now) soyou will have to manually copy from PSt into the new mailboxes. Alternatively you could put the PST-fileson a file share and let you users doit themselves (call it a new archiving policy). Again alternatively buy a decent third party mailarchiving program (exchange@spamfor instance has an pst import facility). You can start with a clean information store that way.
