Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 help
I have a 2003 small business server, my goal is to move away from this server to a new windows 2008 standard server running exchange 2007 standard. Here is what I have done so far I built the 2008 server and loaded exchange 2007 running the exchange 2007 readiness scans resolving everything. Then I loaded AD on the 2008 server (same box as the exchange 2007) doing all the adprep’s, AD is syncing with the 2003 small business server fine, DNS is also. At this point I have Exchange 2003 and 2007 running in the same environment (both version are fully patched) all mail boxes are still residing on the 2003 server and MX records are pointed at the 2003 server. I moved 1 mail box from the 2003 server to the 2007, I am able to use outlook to connect to this mail box and send email, but no inbound email is working. When email comes in, it is coming to the 2003 server first but shouldn’t the exchange 2003 server know the mail box for this user is on the exchange 2007 box and deliver the email to this mailbox? This is huge for me to transition to this email server slowly and demoting the old 2003 SBS Advice please!

You should have your MX record pointing at the 2007 server and let it handle the routing.Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Will it route email to the old server if the mail box is on this server?

Hi,First a step back are both server installed in the same Exchange organization, it looks like from what you described but please confirm. If so then try to send an e-mail with a user from the Ex03 to the Ex07 server and check if this arrives. If it won't arrive check the mailqueue if the mail is stuck there.Issues can occur if a smarthost is defined on the default smtp connector in the Exchange 2003 environment. Please remove it and create a seperate connector which routes e-mail to the internet.Regards,Johanblog: www.johanveldhuis.nl
