Exchange 2003 senders not resolved in Exchange 2007 mailboxes (same org, transition scenario)
I've been trying to figure out if this is 'by design' or an error for quite a few hours now:- Within the same org, when a user on Exchange 2003 sends an email to another user already moved to Exchange 2007, the sender of the message is not resolved (Outlook shows SMTP address only, no info from AD on double-click).- Sending in the opposite direction works fine - on Exchange 2003 side, all 2007 senders resolve to recipients- The connectors between Exch 2003 Admin group and Exchange 2007 are the default ones created by Exch 2007 setup. 2003 is at SP2, 2007 at SP1.I have tried configuring the authentication for the inbound SMTP connector on 2007, but have found that Windows Integrated auth is not supported in 2007 (!?), and when trying with Basic auth, the SMTP session goes:#Fields: c-ip cs-username s-computername s-ip s-port cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query sc-status sc-win32-status sc-bytes cs-bytes time-taken cs-version cs-host cs(User-Agent) cs(Cookie) cs(Referer) 192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 220+w2k3-ht.im.Root-AITEST.int+Microsoft+ESMTP+MAIL+Service+ready+at+Tue,+5+Jan+2010+14:56:52++0000 0 0 99 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionCommand W2K3-EX - 25 EHLO - w2k3-ex.im.Root-AITEST.int 0 0 4 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 250-w2k3-ht.im.Root-AITEST.int+Hello+[192.168.1.10] 0 0 51 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 334+ 0 0 4 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 334+oYGhMIGeoAMKAQChCwYJKoZIgvcSAQICooGJBIGGYIGDBgkqhkiG9xIBAgICAG90MHKgAwIBBaEDAgEPomYwZKADAgEXol0EW3NRJhoYINPeMjRJgPxo9CLihEB9RQTXIDxolzt0RnEGf2fI0W49tpTmwlB3j2mAGExLwM1psJzuX/gJzikAus1s7f4UnIVRWjCACXrUbflreyvgGT3awr8ZM74= 0 0 224 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 235+2.7.0+Authentication+successful 0 0 35 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionCommand W2K3-EX - 25 AUTH - - 0 0 4 0 15 SMTP - - - -192.168.1.5 OutboundConnectionResponse W2K3-EX - 25 - - 503+5.5.2+Auth+command+already+specified 0 0 40 0 15 SMTP - - - - finishing with 5.5.2 Auth+command+already+specified and never delivering the message (it stays retrying in 2003 queue)Would be greatful for any insight - are there any permissions or similar to configure to get 2007 to understand 2003 is in its own org and senders should be resolved?

Well, this is sorted now - part of the problem was using OWA to see if the sender resolved - even when it does, you can mistake it for not resolving in OWA.The substance is a setting on Exch 2007 receive connector - if Exchange server authentication is set, the sender resolves. If it isn't, the sender appears as SMTP only.(Using Outlook proper for tests like this does help :-)
