Exchange 2003 sender shows as different person in 1 email. Any ideas?
Hi everybody, I have just been asked to figure out why an email that was sent from one person to another ended up looking like the person has sent the email to himself. Last friday a colleague of mine sent an email to his manager, and in his managers inbox it looked like the manager sent it to himself. The only 2 likely causes i know of is send as rights or if someone has access to a logged in persons Outlook and sending the mail from there. We have established that the person sending email to his manager was on his own laptop and i just need to get back to the hotel to confirm if there is send as rights or not. If the manager in question has delegated access, would the person with delegated access be able to send as? What could cause this? Any help would be appreciated. Exchange 2003 singe server 2003 AD environment it seems it is only 1 email that has done this. RonnieRonnie Jorgensen | MCTS Windows Server 2008

hi, >>>it seems it is only 1 email that has done this. If he send the same mail again, Does the issue occur? >>>If the manager in question has delegated access, would the person with delegated access be able to send as? No, it should diplay that one user send on behalf of another user. In my mind only send as can cause it. So first make sure that you have't send as permission. hope can help you thanks,CastinLu TechNet Community Support

Send-As will give this, but then why would the sender want to send such an email to the person who he has send-as permission to, ths wouldn't make sense. Check the sent items of the sender and see sent item. Check message tracking logs to determine how the message was sent.Sukh
