Exchange 2003 resends emails automatically
We are facing the following issue with our Exchange 03 SP2. Some emails that users sent only once are resent automatically for a 2nd or even 3rd time to the same receipients (can be found with the Tracking tool). These emails are delivered properly again and again to the receipients but do not appear in the sent items of the users. It seems that the sever resends these emails without any interaction of the user on a random sequence. What could cause such a reaction and how can this stop as it produces enormous inconvinience? Thanks and regards, Stratos Arvanitidis P.S. The server has been restarted just in case. Even after the restart the items that have been eronous resent 2/3 times do not appear in users' sent items folders.

Hi Strattors, We had problems with antivirus scaners on the backend servers, that could be the issue, u could try disableing it and trying to reproduce the issue with the av disabled, even thou u said the av is on the server for 1year all ready

Hi again, As the issue occurs automatically with no user interaction there is no way to reproduce it from my side. It just happened after some users sent some emails to some receipients. I disabled AV for a while and asked users to monitor their mailboxes just in case it happens again. FYI there is also a BPS (Blackberry Profession Server 4.1) that pushes emails to RIM Handhelds, note though that users that faced issue have no handhelds connected to their mailboxes. :s pretty wierd eh ?

Hello, This happens ONLY if you have any 3rd party software or any email relay server or your SMTP Temptable is corrupt. You can use MFCmapi utility and delete your SMTP TempTable and restart your SMTP Services will resolve your issue. Arun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3

Hi strattos, It seems that third party might be cause the problem, did you restart the SMTP services? 1. Stop the third party anti-virus software to see whether the problem occurs again? 2. Initiate Message tracking on the server and asked for the subject of the message that was resend to get some information. 3. Download MFCMAPI tools to check the SMTP temp table, is there any stuck messages in it? If they are, delete them. about MFCMAPI you can get information from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906557/en-us 4. Suggest user to reconfigure the outlook profile. Hope useful to you.
