Exchange 2003 message size limit not working
Hello, Having a very weird issue with Exchange 2003. Here are my current settings: Global Limit = 10mb SMTP limit = 50mb SMTP Connector limit = 50mb User limit = 50mb This user can neither send nor receive attachments over 10mb. I have rebooted all servers involved (Exchange, DC) without any luck. Appreciate any ideas. -dave

That's the way you have it configured! Raise the Global Limit.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Are you saying the User limit doesnt override the Global Limit? I'm pretty sure it does. -dave

Hi Guys, If anyone could show me a MS article advising the User limit does NOT override the Global limit, I'd love to see it. Here is the KB article describing how to set limits: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322679 And here's a particularly relevant bit: "In this example, the following size limits have been configured: The global setting is set to 2 MB. The SMTP connector is set to 5 MB. The SMTP virtual server is set to 2 MB. The user mailbox setting is set to 3 MB. The global setting is 2 MB. Therefore, all the users who are using the default global setting in the Exchange 2000 Server organization or in the Exchange Server 2003 organization are limited to sending and receiving messages that are a maximum of 2 MB. If an individual user has a mailbox setting of 3 MB, that user overrides the global setting." -dave

That article is contrary to what I've observed, so I'm going to ask about its veracity. Are you saying that users can't send larger messages to each other, or outside the organization? From the article: Note All Internet e-mail messages use the global setting for limits on sending and on receiving. The message categorizer evaluates the sender's sending limit and the recipient's receiving limit. In example 2 earlier, a user with a user mailbox limit of 3 MB could receive messages from another user with a 3-MB sending limit. Because Internet users use the global setting, they can send only a 2-MB message.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Reading the whole KB would have taken you to this, too: Note All Internet e-mail messages use the global setting for limits on sending and on receiving.
