Exchange 2003 mail enable public folder forward rule
We have a desire to change our configuration for our enterprise regarding terminated employees, how we manage their AD account and how we handle correspondence to outside contacts who try to send email to them. Our design: When an employee is terminated the following will occur: 1) Delete the AD account 2) Add the users email address (smtp email address type) to a generic mail enabled public folder so email for all terminated employees gets delivered to this container. 3) Setup a rule for each terminated employee to have any email that comes in get forwarded to their supervisor/manager. This is what the rule would look like: If mail received is sent (To:) terminatedemployee.A@company.com forward to supervisor.A@company.com. We have been testing this approach with 3 users. The problem that we cannot get past is: If a mail item comes in and matches a rule based on the (To:) data, that email will get sent to ALL supervisors that are configured on separate rules. So what is happening is this: Consider this scenario: terminatedemployee.A reports to supervisor.A terminatedemployee.B reports to supervisor.B terminatedemployee.C reports to supervisor.C 3 seperate rules are setup in the folder assistant, where each supervisor gets their respective terminated employees email only. But in fact, if an email comes in for terminatedemployee.A all 3 supervisors get the forwarded email. Furthermore, if at least one of these rules is checked (active), any and all mail that comes in to the container will get forwarded to the supervisor.

Why a PF? You could setup a Terminated Employee Mailbox, add the appropriate SMTP addresses to the mailbox and then use Outlook Rules which are much more granular than PF Rules to forward the emails to the appropriate supervisor. MVP Exchange Server

How about add a secondary e-mail address of the terminated users on the supervisor directly? That would be much simpler, and have the same resultJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
