Exchange 2003 in exc 2010 environment
Hi to all.
I migrated my exchange 2003 infrastructure to exchange 2010.
Now, in a my branch office, i've occasional connectivity problem. This problem sometimes changes outlook state in offline mode
For resolving this problem, i thinked of install exchange 2003 in branch office because, in this moment i haven't money for another 2010/2008 license .
Is possible this?
Thanks to all for answers

Hi,
Instead of installing another server I suggest that you try to find the reason for the client going in offline mode. Are you loosing connectivity between the sites in general or just Exchange? Can you connect the Outlook right after you see it went into
offline mode?

The loss of connectivity between sites is the provider's fault.
You can reconnect outlook, but this does not happen automatically.
So, in the meantime that users put outlook online (if users Notice that outlook is offline) emails are not sent and received.

You would have to locate a domain controller in that second office, and it would have to be a separate DC. Don't consider installing Exchange on to a DC as that will cause you problems when the connection goes down. When Exchange is installed on a DC, all
Exchange servers will ONLY use that DC for their DC needs, so you would have your main Exchange server down.
Otherwise as long as you didn't remove everything connected to Exchange 2003, adding it back in shouldn't be a problem. You will have to configure SMTP connectors, routing group connectors with some care.

OK, so if I add a exchange 2003 into your infrastructure does not cause problems in exchange 2010, notwithstanding I uninstalled exchange 2003,because the fields for 2003 ad schema are still there, right?
Of course I will have to recreate the connectors between exc 2010 and 2003 to direct your mail, having the MX record that points to the main office.

Did you only uninstall Exchange 2003, or did you go through the article on removing all traces of Exchange 2003?

Hi,
If you have already uninstalled the last Exchange 2003 in your organization, you cannot install any prior version of Exchange before Exchange 2010 in the same organization since that is changed the Exchange 2010 environment.
Thanks
