Exchange 2003 duplicate messages
Hi,I have a client that has their email delivered via the POP3 connectio manager and a catchall mailbox. The problem we have is that if one of the users has been sent an email and another user has been CC'd on it, the message is delivered twice to each user. For exampleemail message is to user1@domain.comwith a CC of user2@domain.com then both user1 and user2 will receive 2 copies of the message. If 3 of my users are on the message they will get 3 copies each and so on.According to this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264249/en-usMy ISP is to blame, and I have told them this but they are adamant that it is a problem with the Exchange server that is causing the duplication.Do I need to find a new ISP or is there something I can do?TIAMark

The article is pretty clear. The POP3 host behavior is going to make the difference. It's not Exchange.Bhargav Shukla - MSFT - Exchange Reference: Exchange Server 2007 TechCenter - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124558.aspx; Exchange Server 2003 TechCenter - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123872(EXCHG.65).aspx; Microsoft Exchange Team Blog - http://msexchangeteam.com/default.aspx

Hi Mark,You need to contact your ISP for this issue. This is not an Exchange problem. This behavior can be resolved if the POP3 mail hosts operator (typically an Internet Service Provider (ISP)) configures the POP3 mail host to deliver only a single message to the global mail account mailbox, which is used by the POP3 Connector, instead of creating multiple instances of messages which contain a Cc or a Bcc (or both) address line. Thanks,Elvis

Hi,Thanks for the responses.I've sent all of the details including the KB article to the ISP but they won't play ball.Is this going to be a case of threatening to take business elsewhere before I get any joy, or can you suggest anything else I can tell them?ThanksMark

Hi Mark,I suggest you to continue communicating with your ISP on the issue, the explanation in the KB is clear. Regards,Elvis
