Exchange 2003 deploy in Exchange 5.5 organization
I am in the process of getting my company up to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 5.5. Obviously, to do this we need to make a brief stop at Exchange 2003, and this is where my problem lies. I have gone through all of the steps ADC...check, verify...check, verify...and all seemed to be just fine. My Exchange 2003 talks to the DC and SRS is running. And my Exchange 5.5, on a Windows 2000 server, talks to the DC. However, the two Exchange servers do not talk to each other and I get an MSADC 8026 error message every 5 minutes, with the following message: LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory HQFMAIL for distinguished name 'DOMAIN\Administrator'. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down. (Connection Agreement 'Config CA_hqfserv_HQFMAIL' #3540) For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I have searched and read every site, forum and blog that I could find for this, and have determined that my Exchange 5.5 is not talking to SRS. The Config CA_ is set to port 379. I read one site that said to change this to 390 or 389, but I am unable to change the Exchange connection on my Config CA_ as it is greyed out. Also, this is the second install of Exchange 2003 because the first Exchange 2003 server crashed and could not be recovered. I have checked my domain info using ADSIEdit and LDAP Browser and can find reference to the first failed Exchange 2003 server. How do I get my new Exchange 2003 to talk to my Exchange 5.5 server?

OK, so I got this one figured out. I had to find the Config CA_ setting using ADSIEdit and manually change the 379 to 389. Once I did that and restarted ADC service the data started to flow.
