Exchange 2003 cannot create mailbox store
I installed a new Exchange 2003 standard server that I am configuring as a front-end SMTP bridgehead server (running on Windows 2003 R2 Standard Server) that will be handling our TLS encrypted traffic. I installed Exchange 2003 along with SP2 and a few hotfixes. I have discovered that the first private mailbox store did not mount and the priv1.edb and priv1.stm files never were created. The public folder store exists and is mounted. When I try to mount the first mailbox store I receive the following error message: An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both. ... ID no: c1041724 In the application log, the following errors appear: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeIS Event Category: General Event ID: 9546 Date: 10/6/2010 Time: 1:13:33 PM User: N/A Computer: TGI-OWA5 Description: Failed to create the Event Registration Mailbox for Database First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (<server name>). Error - 0xbf69. I tried restarting Exchange Services and rebooted the server a few times. I found a user under "Delegate Control" that was a SID only. I deleted it but that didn't help. I have been googling the problem and have found a few things like the "Delegate Control" suggestion but nothing has helped. Any ideas? Steve --- As a follow up, I found the following KB article and discovered a system mailbox object that I cannot locate on any Exchange Server. The article is for Exchange 2000 though. Can anyone recommend that I delete this system mailbox object out of AD Users and Computers? Thanks for responding, John. I just ran the ExBPA on all Exchange Servers and nothing related to this problem and any other significant was reported. Any ideas?Steve

I found 2 unmounted mailbox stores on another server which cannot mount with the same errors and have no .edb and .stm files created. So I cannot create any new mailbox store at all on any Exchange Server. Any ideas? Steve

If this is Exchange 2003 Standard then you are limited by how mailbox stores you can create. You can have 1 Storage Group and 1 Mailbox Store per server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822440MVP Exchange Server

Yes. I am aware of that. The new Exchange Server is standard and the first and only Mailbox store fails to mount and it's .edb and .stm files are not been created. The other Exchange Server which has 2 mailbox stores that will not mount with the same error is Enterprise edition. I learned more information. Apparently in the past an old domain controller that was offline for a long period of time came back online which brought back tombstoned records. It appears that that one system mailbox object was one of those tombstoned records. Perhaps deleting it will resolve the problem but I would like someone who knows more about this problem to confirm.Steve

You left that part out about the other server running Enterprise so I was assuming Standard. I see no issue of deleting this System Mailbox object since it was tombstoned. I would first verify your AD is clean with running DCDIAG. You can recreate System Mailbox if needed, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=316622MVP Exchange Server

Thanks. I think I need to open a ticket with Microsoft because of the risk. The best method to recreate the system mailbox is to simply move the mailboxes to another mailbox store but if I still have the problem of create mailbox stores, I won't be able to do that! I also discovered that I cannot mail enable public folders as well. I found KB328740 that talks about the PR_PF_PROXY property not matching the GUID in the Microsoft Exchange System Object but neither this property field nor the system object exists. It appears that there is some sort of AD corruption or permissions problem with the Microsoft Exchange System Objects folder that nothing new can be created in it. I am not sure what to do at this point except to call MS.Steve
