Exchange 2003 Suddenly denying all access
Hello. This may be really simple to someone but its got me stumped. I run SBS 2003 with exchange and up until this morning it was all fine. I have a couple of computers logging in to the server for file sharing, sql and that all works fine. They also have mail boxes which are accessed using Outlook 2003 configured to use Exchange ie the server name and their login name to access their own mailboxes. It all worked perfectly. Now for some reason this morning the mail server is not allowing any E-Mail access from those computers. It reports the mail server is unavailable. Everything else is working SQL, printing andfile access. Curiously I set up Outlook on the server itself to verify if the mail system was damadged and it works perfectly as well. So I have no e-mail for the workstations but I do have access when outlook is run on the server itself. This pointed me in the direction of checking the Ports 25 and 110. I tried to tel net from the workstations and got no response. If I do it on the server I get a response fine. So Firewall next maybe? This is where I get stuck. Is it SBS2003 for some reason blocking the e-mail requests? Have I got a service switched off? I have been running Windows onecare fine on the workstations and that never gives me any trouble but I am inclined to think the fault is on the server. The server BTW is not on the internet so no ISP to deal with. This is all local Intranet stuff. Thanks for anyone who may have some ideas. Neil. I have just tried a different method of telnetting to the the server i.e. telnet <server> <Port> and got a connection quite fine on the client computer. But I still cannot get outlook to connect. any idea?
