Exchange 2003 Standard SP2 75GB db limit - What will happen?
We've just hit our 70GB limit (had it set that way in the registry). I increased the reg key to 75GB and we are going to archive and delete some old mailboxes (since this limit doesn't include white space when calculating). We will be building out a new Exchange 2010 box to migrate to but, in the mean time, if we do happen to hit the 75GB limit, is the dismounting of the db every day at 5am the ONLY thing that will happen? ...even if the database grows to 80GB and beyond? The users went from 60GB to 70GB in record time so, at the current rate, we'll probably be beyond 75GB by the time we are ready to migrate. TIA!

Hi, Your database will dismount every day when the check is performed. I have had one (not all) customer with a database bigger then 80GB and the mailbox database got corrupted. The problem is that if something happens and your DB is corrupted you won't have support by Microsoft. Microsoft will always help if you start with a credit card number :)

A quick fix would be making sure the users clear out deleted items and any unneeded messages. Or at least they would store older stuff into PST files in their local computer An offline defrag is the only way to reduce the physical size of the database. When the next database size check interval passes (every 24 hours) and the database is still over the limit, an error will be logged in the Application log and the store will be dismounted. You can remount the store however you must increase the database size limit (if possible) or reduce the amount of data in the database. You have until the next database size check interval passes Try the below links out and see if it resolve your problem. http://www.imprezablog.co.uk/2011/5/12/temporarily-stop-exchange-2003-database-dismount-when-over-75gb.aspx Girishp

Yup, I had found that link. Gives you 47 hours instead of 24. I just wanted to be 100% sure that the only thing that will happen is a db dismount once per day regardless of how big the db grows. Thanks for your answers...
