Exchange 2003 Server running on Windows 2003 Server is very slow responsive
Hello, I have windows 200e server and exchange 2003 installed. Only 30 mailboxes and all are less than 1 GB mail box sizes.Last one month the server is very slow. If I open any application such as event viewer, active directory users and group, or EMC, it takes about 3 minutes to get open. Out look web access is very slow. In short the server very slow response.There no changes made recently. There is no hardware errors. One error showing in the event is defaultapppool' exceeded time limits.CPU usage is only 20 %, It has got 4 GB RAM , Usge is nly 1.5 GB. 3GB swicth has been not set.

No, I have not installed any updates recently. It is about 6 months ago.

Download and install Exchange Best Practice Analyzer and run it against your Exchange Server. Also run Windows Updates as suggested.MVP Exchange Server

It is always recommended to implement /3gb whenevr you have more than more than 1 GB of ram. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823440 Check if AV is not doing excessive scanning exchange folders How to Properly Configure File System Antivirus Software on Exchange Server http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Properly-Configure-file-system-antivirus-Exchange.html Also make sure users not added any kind of search tool addin in outlook which might be polling servers. Thanks for the posts.I have done two actions as suggested in the posts.1) Updated allcritical updates.2) Set the 3 GB switch.after that store process memory usage went from 600 MB to 950 MB. However the server seems like normal speed now. I will observe for a week and let you guys know the result.Thanks again for all valuable advice. This is a great place.

Hi, Running a server without patch update is like running a car without serving for 6 months; always remember to do housekeeping work. Have a task list (check list) created to for this if you dont have automated management platform in place. ---CheersPadman De Silva
