Exchange 2003 Sending email outside of the domain
Hi all I am trying to see why at one point we were able to send and receive email threw exchange 2003 outside of the domain and it just stopped working randomly one day now we are trying to get it to work again.. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong what settings that need to be checked etc?

Let's just say that it could be more than 1,001 reasons based on what you've told us. I recommend you contact an Exchange consultant or engineer, perhaps the one who set it up for you.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Maybe you could describe a bit more about what you are trying to do exactly. 1. Are you trying to send/receive mails on a Outlook client that isn't a part of the domain? 2. Are you trying to send mail on behalf of another domain? etc. etc. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

What client software are you using? Outlook 2003? Where is the pc located, at the office or a home pc and then downloads from POP3? We need a bit more information to help you out the right way. If the pc is inside the office it might just be that there has been a smtp replay to a specific IP and then the IP on the pc has changed, but it's just guessing since we don't know a lot about the setup. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Ok using Exchange 2003 Outlook 2007 and a pc offsite in another state. I am not sure if they are using it as pop or not but i do believe we are just going to have it download via pop and have there isps send outgoing mail but is there another way besides this end or VPN we do not have vpn set up at the moment.

The easy way is like you describe, just setup a pop account and then send outgoing through ISP. You do have the option of creating a RPC over HTTP in Exchange 2003, you can see a guide on Petri homepage here: http://www.petri.co.il/how-can-i-configure-rpc-over-https-on-exchange-2003-single-server-scenario.htm The setup in the article is a single server setup, so you might have to create yours a bit different, but there are options to using POP and SMTP from ISP. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.
