Exchange 2003 SP2 database crash!
We have an Exchange 2003 SP2 stand-alone server with all updates that one month ago had started to generate errors like these: Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store Event Category: Background Cleanup Event ID: 9791 Date: 04/06/2012 Time: 10.41.24 User: N/A Computer: EXCHANGE Description: Cleanup of the DeliveredTo table for database database NAme' was pre-empted because the database engine's version store was growing too large. 0 entries were purged. Possible long-running transaction: SessionId: 0xBD331060 Session-context: 0x00000000 Session-context ThreadId: 0x00000C20 Cleanup: 1 For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. and Event Type: Warning Event Source: ESE Event Category: Online Defragmentation Event ID: 705 Date: 04/06/2012 Time: 10.41.36 User: N/A Computer: EXCHANGE Description: Information Store (2436) Zeis Storage Group: Online defragmentation of database 'Database Path' terminated prematurely after encountering unexpected error -1069. The next time online defragmentation is started on this database, it will resume from the point of interruption. I have changed the online maintenance windows to offpeak hours and with no overlap with backup, but the issue, randomly, persists. How can I resolve this issue? Thank you! Daniele Castelli

Looks like a version store issue. Please find the below article for further steps http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2006/04/19/425722.aspxSatheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you

I had the problem the first time today with the 9791 message constantly and then the 623 message, and then a hang of store.exe. The only way I can keep it from happening is to disable all Exchange activesync and Outlook Mobile Access for everyone through Global settings - mobile services and then restarting IIS. All those smartphone users are not too happy. Maybe it is a new phone or update that is causing the problems? My online defrag ran all the way through on Sunday with no problems. I have went through and disabled it individually for each user in Active Directory - Advanced Exchange features. I will probably start re-enabling a few people at a time tomorrow to see if I can figure out which device is causing it. I want the online defrag to go through a whole pass tonight, because when I brought my information store back up after the crash it claimed it was at my storage limit even though I had an extra 2 GB showing on the Sunday online Defrag.

Hello, This problem may occur if the rate at which message entries are added to the DeliveredTo table is faster than the rate at which message entries are removed from the DeliveredTo table. A message entry is added to the DeliveredTo table every time that a message is delivered to the server. Please refer this KB : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919417Dinesh Patil
