I removed an exchange 2003 server last night. However, when I log into system manager on another server I still see it in there. Should I manually delete from there, or should that have been done with the un-install? Also, how do I search the AD to ensure that it does not refernce the server any more. Treadstone

If you dont want to remove all of exchange and only this server which I assume you have, then you can go remove via adsieditSukh

Hi, To remove the Exchange Server 2003 from AD, you can achieve it by Exchange System Manager or ADSI Edit snap-in. Using Exchange System Manager, you can refer to the following steps: Click Start->point to Programs->point to Microsoft Exchange->click System Manager->expand Administrative Groups/Your_Administrative _Group_Name/Servers->right-click the name of the Exchange Server 2003 server that you want to remove->click All Tasks->click Remove Server. If you cannot install or run Exchange System Manager, you can use the Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) Edit snap-in to manually remove enough of the server attributes so that you can try a successful reinstallation. This method does not perform cleanups of references to the server object outside the server's own container. We do not recommend that you use this method unless you intend to immediately reinstall the server in the same administrative group. This is because you may have to manually remove or edit many attributes on objects throughout Active Directory. ADSIEDIT is part of the Windows 2003 support tools. You can find the support tools on the Windows 2003 CD under the folder \Support\TOOLS. Install the support tools by double clicking SUPTOOLS.MSI. So basically I uninstalled exchange via add/remove programs which removed the Microsoft IS service and others. But the public folder store is still there. I opened system manager from another EX 2003 server in the org and I can still see the server in the list along with the public folder store. I cannot remove the public folder store because the Microsoft IS service was removed and this is necessary. So your're saying that all I have to do is remove the server using ADSIEDIT and this will remove it from the list of servers in systems manager auotmatically? Cuase when I right-click the server in system smanager and click remove it does nothing, aslo I cannot remove it from the list of routing groups members (it does nothing).Treadstone

That's the only way it would let me uninstall exchange. So adsiedit should solve that right?Treadstone

Yes it will, as mentioned in my post above, I've had to do this many time in similar siutations as you. I'm actually removing exch 2003 as i'm typing this now.Sukh
