Exchange 2003 Recovery.
I need to recover Exchange Server 2003 from 2 years ago. Currently I have the backup tape and want to do the recovery but am having some issues. Can anyone share with me some good information on how to preform this recovery. Also I want to do this on an offline server in a non production enviroment. I have set up the server with the same name and exchange SP and recovered the file but the info store will not start. I did not recover AD though and I am curious if that is my problem is it can't find the accounts to start the services. the recovery was done via Backup Exec 12.

I haven't had to recover an Exchange Server offline since 5.5, but I have to do it now. I need to recover Exchange Server 2003 from 2 year old tapes. I want to do this offline as to not mess up my production server. I know you can do this online, but I just don't feel comfortable doing this so I figure I will do it offline. I looked for some notes on DR and 2003 but haven't found anything good. Can anyone direct me to a good resource to recover my server offline? I am running Backup exec 12. I set this up once but messed the Exchange server name up so I am reloading the server. Again any help would be appreciated. Dan

Hi, To restore the database, you should ensure the database and Storage Groups have the same name in ESM as on the backup tape. Then dismount the store and delete all the database files and transaction log, then Configure ‘overwrite’ check box. After that, please choose Restore and select “Last Backup Set” if applicable since the database is in an inconsistent state when you restore an online backup of an Exchange database. When make a database to a consistent, the hard recovery is necessary. If you select “Last Backup Set”, the hard recovery is run automatically after the restore finishes. For more information, you can refer to the below article: How to recover or to restore a single mailbox in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;823176 Thanks Allen
