Exchange 2003 Public folder missing some folders

I know this is not the right forum for Exchange 2003 but I couldn't find the right forum for it.  We have a situation where there are some missing folders for our PF when viewing using MAPI client whereas OWA show the missing folders.  I suspect that the PF edb and stm files are out of sync.  How do we resolve this?

Try to see the Public Folders and assign the permission tool "Microsoft Exchange Server Public Folder DAV-based Administration Tool" https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22427

If your outlook users are connecting via Cached OST you might try disabling caching to see if the issue is resolved.  If so then you may just need to recreate the OST

Hi,

Please try Troy's suggestion to use Outlook Online mode to check whether the issue persists. If the missing folders can be viewed in OWA, it indicates the permission for viewing the public folder should be set correctly.

If that is the case, the issue should be related to the Outlook side. Please change a computer or create a new Outlook profile to have a try.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I did try the non-cache mode by the way and that didn't help.  I also tried creating a new profile with the same result. Also, did I mentioned that the EDB file is at 80GB which is the limit for Exchange 2003, correct?  Could that be the reason why it is not showing some folders?

  1. I dont think the DB size is going to keep you from seeing the items via Outlook yet you can see them in OWA
  2. Can you actually interact with the folders via OWA that you cannot see in Outlook?  i.e. can you open items within etc?
  3. Is this happening on more then one machine?
  4. is this happening with more then on account/login?
  5. What version and patch level of Outlook?

2. yes, in OWA, we can select the missing folders and see the message content.

3. yes, on all Outlook client, the missing folders are not visisble.

4. yes, more than one account.  Even the administrator accounts and users with full access to folders.

5. that I don't know.  I'll have to find out.

Not sure if the client version is the root cause.  The symptoms of not being able to see some folders in OWA/MAPI client only appear after they did an offline defrag.  Any other suggestion?

Hi,

I noticed that users can access these missing public folders in OWA but not in all Outlook clients. Therefore, I narrow down the issue to client side.

I am a little confused about "The symptoms of not being able to see some folders in OWA/MAPI client only appear after they did an offline defrag". Do you mean the client users delete the public folders in Outlook Offline mode? Please double confirm the missing public folders can still exist and visible in server side. Then install a new Outlook 2007 or 2010 in a new computer to confirm whether the missing public folders can be shown or not.

They did an server side database offline defrag because it was getting too large and it dismounted.  I will try the Outlook 2007/2010 in a VM to confirm.  Thanks.
