Exchange 2003 Public Folders
I couldn't find an Exchange 2003 forum, so I will post here and either be told where to post or find an answer. We are going to upgrade to 2007 in the next month or so, so this will apply to the upgrade as well. We have setup a Public Folder that is Mail Enabled. I have created 2 rules in Outlook 2007 that 1. Sends an autoreply message and 2. Forwards the email to a Distribution list (who also has an DL email address assigned). All works well, but, when the user gets the forwarded email in their inbox they reply and it replies as them personally. I then had them toggle the "From" field and type in the email address of the public folder (so if the client "Replies" it will go back into the public folder and be reforwarded to the list). All works well for me, but non-admin users don't have permission to send as the public folders email address. I have added them to the Send on behalf in the permissions and added them to the permissions in Exchange with Send As authority in the Directory Assignment and all users are Authors to the folder. What am I missing? If I could just figure out why they can't send as the Public folder address all would work quite well for us. Questions 1. What am I missing since everything works well except for the permission to send as the email address 2. Will this type of scenario/structure be supported when we migratte to Exchange 2007, or is there another way to do this?

I would move away from using PF and move this function to mailboxes instead.mailboxes have more configurable options that might be usefull.

Can you add formatted autoresponses to incoming emails to a mailbox and then forward the responses to another distribution list as you can with PF?

Do you want the mailbox to automatically reply to all incoming mail including from Internet and then forward the message to a DL?

Yes. Scenario: A client emails the "Public" email address with a request. The public email address sends a template autoresponse informing them that the email was received and that a representative will respond within 24 hours (for example). The client's email will then be forwarded to a group of responders (DL). When the responder answers the clients email they will "Send As" the "Public" email address that the client originally emailed their request to. This way if the client "Reply" (from their email client) it will automatically go back to the "Public" email address and cloak the actual responders email address. Once the Reply comes in it will then be redistributed to all responders so no Reply will be missed in the event the original responder is not there. Edit: The DL will be a Distribution or Security Group on our AD that has an email address assigned to it.

Yes, you can do this. you can also skip the mailbox and let people mail direct to the DL if you like, but I think you want to have mail in the central mailbox for reference.

I have been searching for an article that can show me how to do this. What buzz words can I use to find something detailing the procedure? I can figure out the sending to the DL, I need help figuring out how to send a template response email from a mailbox, doing it from the PF was very simple and straight forward. Any response would be very greatly appreciated.
