Exchange 2003 Outlook 2003 Recovery Mode?
Hi,Long story short, had a user who was deleted from AD. Instead of recreating the user and linking the mailbox back, an admin here just created a new user account and lo and behold, was surprised when the user logged on to Outlook to be presented with an empty mailbox...Anyways, I deleted the new mailbox and pointed the user to their previous mailbox...However, until the user recreated their Outlook profile, Outlook was prompting with the recovery mode message, probably because when they logged in the first time with the new mailbox, the GUID was written somewhere and then when I put them back to their original mailbox, the GUID changed and Outlook thought we were in dial tone situation...The nuts and bolts of this question is where is this GUID stored, I assumed it was just in the OST of the profile, but it appears it is somewhere else because I got the user to rename the OST files and he still got the issue. I then noted that on the web it is recommended to disable cache mode and re-enable it and this gets round the need to create a new profile....But can anyone tell me specifically where this info is stored... I have tried looking at the files, and the registry under Windows Messaging Subsystems, looking for a match between my MSEXCHMAILBOXGUID attribute on my account and the keys but to no avail?

So, basically, you want to reconnect the original mailbox without recreating the mail profile. I assume that you want to save the latest mails in the current OST file. Please correct me if I have misunderstood the issue Does that “new mailbox” have been purged already? If not, please reconnect that mailbox back to the account, so the user can reopen the OST file and backup data. After that, you can reconnect the original mailbox by recreating the mail profile

Hi,I believe you misunderstand me...Basically Outlook seems to remember the mailbox GUID in another place other than just the OST files.Disabling cached mode, and then reenabling it obivously clears out or changes something else??I would like to know what this is...

“If a user chooses to work online, the previous .ost file becomes unreadable because a new key from the new mailbox overwrites the encryption data associated with the previous mailbox. The .ost file is tightly linked to a specific mailbox. A new mailbox always has a new .ost key value, even if the new mailbox has the same mailbox GUID as the old mailbox” -------------Refer to <Using Outlook 2003 Exchange Recovery Mode with a Dial Tone Database> So, even if you can make an identical msExchangeMailBoxGUID for the reconnected mailbox as before, new OST creation won’t be avoided According to the article above, disable/enable the cached mode will create the new OST file with new OST key. Please ensure that the messages has been backup in the current OST before using this method
