Exchange 2003 OWA
We have Frontend Backend configuration for Exchange 2003 SP2 and are using Windows 2003 SP2. We installed 2 new Windows 2003 x64 DCs and have transferred FSMO roles to it. When we shutdown one of the old DC, users cannot access email using OWA from outside the premises. Please suggest how can we resolve the issue.

What error message are you getting? How did you configure the FE server? Do you have an ISA server? Do you have any error messages in the event log on the FE server? We do not have ISA server. FE is in DMZ and is working fine except when the old DCs is shutdown. Once the old DC is shutdown, While trying to access Exchange Server using ESM, I get ID no. 8000ffff Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Extension error. Also when I try to see the property of the Exchange Server in ESM, in Log file directory, I get The RPC Server is unavailable. Facility: Win32ID No. 800706ba Exchange System Manager. All the issue seems to be addressed once we start the old DC.

I'd move the FE server out of the DMZ and just allow the necessaryports through the firewall to the FE server. Ports 443 and 25 might beenough, but if you use POPS (port 995) or IMAPS (port 993), allowthose too.Otherwise, I'd suspect that your firewall isn't allowing the FE toaccess the new DC.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
