Exchange 2003 Migration to Exchange 2010
Hi all, I have to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.

I'm thinking of migrating in a weekend, are just 200 mailboxes and most have very little floor space, about 700MB per mailbox.

Although there are some mailboxes are few, but they have about 13GB, these are about 20 mailboxes.

I see the process Deployment Wizard Exchange server, and I've thought about this:

1. We install Exchange Server 2010 and configure certificate, connectors, DAG, CasArray ...
2. I try to separate the Exchange 2010 System (connection test users, mail flow ...)

Until now Exchange 2003 users are working normally regardless of deploying Exchange 2010?

3. In a weekend performed the migration of users and the BES server configuration to point to the new Exchange 2010 mail system.

I have several questions:

1. When you install Exchange 2010 servers, this will affect current users of Exchange 2003?
2. How 13GB mailboxes I have a problem with the migration?
3. The environment has BES, BES and can be configured to point to the new mail system?

Thank you very much

Hello again, for the installation of Exchange 2010 SP3 RU9,

  I can install Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU9 on Windows Server 2012?

I saw that Exchange 2010 SP3 can be installed on Windows Server 2012 but not if in a coexistence scenario with Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2003 R2 possible.

many Thanks

1. When you install Exchange 2010 servers, this will affect current users of Exchange 2003?
It will not affect the users of Exchange2003.
I recommend to move all mailboxes to Exchange2010 and shutdown Exchange2003 for few days and monitor. If everything goes well uninstall Exchange2003 as it is out of support.

2. How 13GB mailboxes I have a problem with the migration?
Try moving your mailboxes using the below command from Exchange2010. It will skip the corrupted emails.

New-MoveRequest -Identity <username> -TargetDatabase <EXCHANEG2010-DB-NAME> -BadItemLimit 50 -AcceptLargeDataLoss
Check this for details.

3. The environment has BES, BES and can be configured to point to the new mail system?
Yes you can configure the BES on Exchange2010.

Hi Yupikaiey,

Thank you for your question.

I agree with MAS.

In addition MASs suggestion, I will give you some links which is about Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010  for your migration:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805040(v=exchg.141).aspx

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638130(v=exchg.141).aspx

Besides, if we want to use outlook 2003 connect to Exchange 2010, we must migrate public folder to Exchange 2010.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
