Exchange 2003 Migration/Removal Concerns
Hello, I have migrated all of the required Exchange roles to another server using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/822931 Along with this article I had to use ADSI Edit to desginate another Postmaster account. The old postmaster account was the administrator of the source server. I then went to the Administrator account in AD and removed the mailbox. Then I proceeded to lauch the Exchange 2003 uninstallation and I am greeted with an error saying there are connected mailboxes I need to move and delete them from this server. I open System Manager on the source exchange server (the one I want to remove) and I go Info Store>Mailboxes and I check for mail boxes, the only boxes I see are the system and SMTP one, no user mailboxes. So what's Exchange on about I have mailboxes when the store tells me I dont? Thanks to much

Have search for the mailboxesin AD using an LDAP search tool, e.g. LDP, LDIFDE, ADFIND, etc. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279202 Also some furtherinformation here: http://blogs.technet.com/evand/archive/2004/12/21/329172.aspx Tony www.activedir.org

Hi, I used the tool provided on the website and removed all the mailboxes sucessfully I am now able to remove Exchange via the UI. Before I start I have a few questions: Does this remove just modify the server? Will it clean up the AD Schema also? The reason why I ask this question is because I am forced to deal with another situation which just arose. It seems our hardware guys who paritioned the Server2 box has paritioned the drives wrong and this box needs to be formatted and correctly paritioned again. Rigth now I have Server1 (AD, Main Exchange,DNS,DHCP) and Server 2(Exchange). What was suppose to happen was our tech installed Exchange on Server1 when he was suppose to install it on Server2. I migrated Exchange from Server1 by moving all the roles, the postmaster ccount and the pub folders to Server2. But, I must now format Server2 again and repartition it properly and then turn around and install Exchange again.. My question is . I have Server1 which basically has Exchange sitting on it doing nothing, all the roles have been moved to Serverf2 along with all the mailboxes. I have Server2 which is the main Exchange server now. I need to format Server2 to reparition it again, what would be the best way to go about doing this? I was thinking, to migrate all the roles and folders back over to Server1 and then just format Server2 and do a migration again or can I completely remove Exchange from Server1 and format Server2. Reload the OS on server2 and install Exchange and basically create a new installation? Some insite is definately required. Thanks,
