If you stop the journaling does the growth stop?
You're sending the journalized messages to a mailbox on a database
that isn't being journalized, aren't you?

Yes, If your journal mailbox is on growing Database then it should be archive in journal store instead of sitting in exchage databse. you need to check it journal configuration.
Also i would recommend to see event log 1221 which generate right after online maintenance to see if any issue of white spaces in DB.Anil

Hi Sonal,
Does your journal mailbox on a separate store?
If no, I think you should create a new database and move the journal mailbox there for the best practice.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Rich,
Moving journalized messages to a mailbox on a database that isn't being journalized, worked :)
