Exchange 2003 Message size limits are not working
Hi, I have a weired issue on my Exchange 2003 Server! I need to set up users so they can receive up to 20MB size of message from the Internet users . Here is the setup: Under Exchnage Manager > Global Settings > Message Delivery > Proterties > Defaults > Receiving message size > No limit (just for testing purpose) In the Active directory the all users are using Default size limits (User properties > Exchange general > Deliver Restrictions) But Still no luck. User only can receive 10MB size message but others returns! I restarted all the exchnage services but no luck! What I am missing here??? Many Thanks in advance tikitiboo

You will probably need to set both the send and the receive limits the same. Also check on the properties of the SMTP virtual server for limitations. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Hi, For Exchange 2003, you need to configure Global limit, Exchange SMTP connector limit, SMTP virtual server limit and user mailbox setting to limit the size of outgoing messages. So, from your description, you also should configure SMTP connector limit and SMTP virtual server limit. For connector setting, go to Microsoft Exchange->System Manager->expand ‘Administrative Groups’->expand the name of your administrative group->expand ‘Routing Groups’->expand the name of your routing group->expand Connectors->right-click the connector that you want to configure->click Properties->On the Content Restrictions tab, under Allowed sizes, click to select the Only messages less than (KB) check box, and then type the size (in KB) that you want to permit For SMTP virtual server limit, go to Microsoft Exchange->System Manager->expand ‘Administrative Groups’->expand the name of your administrative group->expand Servers->expand the name of your server->expand Protocols->expand SMTP node->right click the name of your SMTP virtual server->click Properties-> Click the Messages tab to set the maximum size that you want to permit. Besides, conversion encoding and agent processing can increase the size of the message as it flows through the Exchange organization. So you need to control the limits a little more. And the recipient should be able to receive the 20MB size of message, which need to be configured by recipients. For more information, you can refer to the article ‘How to set size limits for messages in Exchange Server'. Hope this helps. ThanksSophia Xu
