I haven't heard anything else yet about for Windows 7Mark Morowczynski|MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Hi,You may try to use Application Compatibility Toolkit to circumvent this behaviour. You can download it from here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=24da89e9-b581-47b0-b45e-492dd6da2971Regards,Zoltnhttp://www.clamagent.org - Free Antivirus for Exchange http://www.it-pro.hu http://emaildetektiv.hu

Awesome man, thanks so much for the hard work on this! I have been looking for something, anything like this so that I can get the exchange tools running. I installed the modified .exe and so far it is working great, thanks!

Will,Thank you so much for posting this. It really helped me out of a pinch!
August 11th, 2009 9:58am
Will,Thanks for this - it works perfectly in the full release of Windows 7 (Technet, August, Professional edition). A bit fiddly but I can get on with my job now without RDPing to the exchange server...Andy

FYI: the Exchange tools for VISTA(noted previously) do not work on W7Ent (full release). Any other suggestions?
August 14th, 2009 12:31pm
Thanks, this worked fine for me on Windows 7 Enterprise RTM.
August 17th, 2009 11:38pm
Thanks to WCDove for that legwork. I am currently installing on Windows 7 RTM. Worked fairly well. Got an error about not having an email program to associate with and it looked like it was going to terminate, but it kept going. (Had opted to not install outlook first per the issues in the PDF file). went into active directory u&C and the exchange functions are present.Like previous posts, now i can get on with my assignment!thanks WCdove!daveJust tried to enter the exchange manager..... it gave me an error with "MMC could not create the snap-in" Any ideas ??

Does this work with a x64 version of windows 7 Ent.?
August 26th, 2009 4:00pm
I managed to install the ESM for Vista (modified msi) on Windows 7 Pro RTM x64 but can't get the tabs in ADUC. I suppose this is because it is ment to run in a 32bit MMC ? It's a shame because it is the only thing left before I can drop my Windows XP mode... Otherwise the System Manager works fine.
August 31st, 2009 9:55am
Any word on x64 Exchange management tools yet?

No this will not work with 64bit ver.Will Dove | MCSA 2003:Security | A+ | Network+ | Security+ |

I have not been able to get this to work on 64bit OS.... Not sure why, most be some major changes between 64bit Vista and 64bit Win7Will Dove | MCSA 2003:Security | A+ | Network+ | Security+ |
October 9th, 2009 11:13am
Not sure what you did with the install, but it is working great here. you are running 32bit OS correctWill Dove | MCSA 2003:Security | A+ | Network+ | Security+ |
October 9th, 2009 11:14am
If you are getting the errors you will need to reinstall everything, make sure that you don't have any admin tools open when installing, and unpin ADUC if you have it pinned. Will Dove | MCSA 2003:Security | A+ | Network+ | Security+ |

If you run a 32Bit its fine but with so many of us running 64Bit this makes it impossible to install unless MS release a 64bit version. RDP into the exchange server and working of that isnt exactly the prefered route. I cannot even setup a remoteapp with the remote desktop server as that is too 64bit.
November 4th, 2009 5:57am
That works great for the tabs in ADUC, have you managed to get system manager working eg message tracking, view the mail boxes etc? I get a down arrow on the mailboxws and public folders in system manager . . Thanks
November 16th, 2009 9:07am
That is fantastic works a treat. well done. Thanks

Hi to all.I am trying to get this working on a Win7 64bit system. Is there any solution for 64bit systems?ESM works, but no tabs in ADUC.
February 10th, 2010 9:20am
i have already installed ESM and it works (only the Exchange Manager and not exchange's ADUC shortcut),but it doesn't show any of the exchange tabs in ADUC. In order to achieve that I had to install everything in XP Mode.
February 19th, 2010 11:47am
Well, the test seem to worked out great, no issues or errors when adding users in ADUC....For more details go to http://nwcalc.web44.net/Win7/Will WCDove:Thank you for the solution! I tried to edit the .msi table myself using Orca, but was unable to do it correctly. Every time I made an adjustment, it seemed to corrupt the package. Anyway...it took me a little while of playing with it before I realized that you provided the already tweaked .msi for us.Thank you! I can now happily administer my users and email from Windows 7! :)

Windows 7 32bit Enterprise edition, MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /Q worked great for me, thanks robert! (I feel better using something I downloaded from microsoft directly)
March 4th, 2010 11:43am
Download the vista tools from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3403d74e-8942-421b-8738-b3664559e46f&displaylang=en Then run the .msi from an administrator dos window with the following command. MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /QWhen run in silent mode it wont pop up the box saying that this product is only for vista. This allows you to continue the installation. Thank you!
March 17th, 2010 4:57pm
Did anyone get it working on Windows 7 x64
March 19th, 2010 2:31am
That trick didn't work for me (the silent installation i mean). I had to modify the ESMVISTA file by using the ORCA editor and I deleted some entries that I found from searching on the internet that had to do with the version of Vista. So now I have the Exchange Manager installed and working on W7 x64 as also the User & Computers console that comes along with the installation. I can't add them though in a new mmc console that I could use them along with other stuff in one console. So I have one mmc console that I use with stuff like ADUC(without exchange features), WSUS, ADSS, GPM, DHCP, DNS, Failover Cluster, Hyper-V Manager and different toolbar pins for Exchange Manager and User and Computer with Exchange features. I haven't checked If by creating a new user from ADUC (without the exchange features) still creates a user's mailbox. But the sure thing is that by creating a user from ADUC from Exchange Manager, the mailbox is being created normally.
March 19th, 2010 4:31am
This is what i did, it takes a lot of messing around to get it to work with windows 7 x64, the exchange tools do install and the system manager works as default but you do miss the extra extensions appearing in the mmc.silent install of the tools for 32bit works fine and you do not need seperate consoles to still manage the exchange 2003 environment.

Blackman TFRC, Any chance that you could tell us exactly what steps you took to make this work in Win7 x64? I've searched and searched and tried various things until now I can't remember what I have or haven't tried, and I really need this functionality. It just seems ridiculous to have to install XP mode just for this one process, but I'm almost to that point...
March 30th, 2010 12:23pm
My friend, I have to admit that in order to tell you the exact steps that I took, I have to do the whole thing from the begining. I tried to install the same things in another Windows 7 64bit installation of one of my colleagues and even though I managed to install the Exchange Manager (which is the easy part) I wasn't able to have the features in exchange's ADUC. I am working on it...I have to check what extra step I did in my installation to have it working. I know how frustrating it is. I had to deal with XP mode myself to have my work done. And XP mode was mulfunctioning some times, or it was taking ages to start ADUC from it. I wish Microsoft would do something to make it easier for us. I will reply back as soon as possible.
March 30th, 2010 3:36pm
hi BlackmanTFRC,Could you email me that MSI you modify to see if it works instead of telling us each and every step? Thanks in advance for your time.
April 16th, 2010 2:25pm
I too am very interested in BlackmanTFRC's response to MIManzano post on getting this to work on 64-bit Win7 so that Exchange tabs are visualized in ADUC. We are a staff-challenged school district and the slow response to get XP Mode to initialize every time we need to perform Exchange-related ADUC tasks (which is very often) is a significant problem. MS needs to get closer to its customers' (particularly network administrators) needs when they develop new iterations of their management tools with an emphasis on down-level compatibility and ease of use. There are still many organizations on Exch 2003.
April 23rd, 2010 9:13am
Hello all. I am sorry I haven't responded. I will get back to all of you as soon as I find some time from work.
April 23rd, 2010 10:38am
Hoping BlackmanTRFC can find some time from work soon. It's a pain point for us and I'm sure many others.
May 4th, 2010 1:19pm
Im int the same boat... win 7 64-bit is a pain. Need a solution to this problem
May 5th, 2010 5:26pm
Hey BlackmanTRFC, did it have anything to do with the folder SysNative? Really hoping you can let us know what you did. I would definetly buy you a beer... :)
May 9th, 2010 12:13am
We are all still twisting in the wind here absent Microsoft recognition of and fix for this problem. Any light you could shed on this would be sincerely appreciated.
June 4th, 2010 9:16am
Hello All, Same problem and using the solutions as mentioned by Jean-Marc H: 1. installed the Windows XP mode component (WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=148103) 2. installed Windows6.1-KB958559-x64 and Windows6.1-KB977206-x64 (you might not needs those, depending on your computer hardware). 3. once installed, Ive used the shortcut from the startmenu -> Windows Virtual PC\Windows XP Mode to setup and configure the virtual machine 4. I've joined the VirtualPC to the domain, important for the exchange tools :) and after the restart closed the VirtualPC 5. Presto!, the exchange management tools can now be started als a RemoteApp from the shortcut in the startmenu. Windows Virtual PC\Windows XP Mode Applications .

Hi all. Finally after lots of work and couple of projects that had to be completed, I found some time for some tests and to reply back here. VSchoenmakers describes a way that it works. It might be laggy during the logon procedure to the xp mode while starting the remoteapp but it works for sure. The other way is to work inside the virtual machine. In my case I managed to install ESMVISTA on Win7 with the help of this http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800503539/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#1800509173 what we are dealing here is the problem with the 64bit Win7 installation, because I you search the web you will find out that there are working solutions for 32bit installations. From my side my news are not good. Indeed I had installed ESMVISTA (after editing it with the Orca editor) and then I was trying to make the tabs appear in the ADUC of RSAT and I finally got it working. I thought that this happened because I installed some stuff from microsoft and some other stuff I did, but unfortunatelly that wasn't the trick. I tried to do the same installations to other PCs or laptops and nothing worked (talking about the tabs on ADUC). Right now I have upgraded my installation to Exchange 2010, so I had to uninstall all these things from my computer to install the new Management Console. So, I dealt with the whole thing again in a virtua simulated environment. From where I didn't manage to have the tabs working. I am sorry guys that I didn't manage to be of any help. I think that I was just lucky to have done something that made the management console to work...and I didn't manage to do it again.

i am trying to get this file to get ESM to work with win7 but the web address above is not working. can you tell another place where i can get the file? Thanks! http://nwcalc.web44.net/Win7/ ddb

Why is this so hard for the Microsoft team to figure out? Can't they make this work on a Windows 7 x64 machine?....what a pain!!!!
July 7th, 2010 12:13pm
I have tried to insall this and worked perfectly, i uninstalled Outlook 2007 and then when i try and reinstall it, it does not let me?
July 22nd, 2010 10:36am
Hi Micky, Appreciate the keen response but i have tried that solution (Posted by many) but it does not work. It only works for win 7 x32 and not x64. Cheers, Stinny
July 27th, 2010 7:39pm
I agree. I am in the same boat and would like to see a solution. I am running Windows 7 64-bit Professional and so far have not found a solution to bring up the exchange tabs and additional info tabs in ADUC.
July 29th, 2010 2:23pm
Finally!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Works Great!!! Tim
September 1st, 2010 3:48pm
I know this is a little old but I had the same issue, did you find a fix for it?
October 14th, 2010 4:10pm
I purchased Win7 64-bit a few weeks ago and was very disappointed there were no Exchange tools that would work on 64-bit. I tried everything with no luck. I finally reformmated back to 32-bit becuase the Exch tools were a final deal breaker for 64-bit. The tools were among 4-5 other systems that were not supported. On 32-bit, I was finally able to get the Exch tools working using the /passive method. Using /Q did not work for me. The tabs are working in ADUC also. Thanks for everyone's work on this!!
November 9th, 2010 8:53am
John: Brilliant! Thanks for your directions above! Everything worked spendidly, until I tried to launch the now-saved AD 32-bit Users and Computers. The Exchange attributes are not there. If I recreate from step 2c onwards, it works. But whenever I save the 32-bit MMC, it loses the Exchange attributes. Am I missing something? Thanks again! Cheers!
March 10th, 2011 3:24pm
John: Thanks for the very detailed procedure!! I am also I am having the same experience as Agur Jakeh. Any ideas? Dave win7 64 sp1
March 10th, 2011 4:36pm
it's easy : Download : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3403d74e-8942-421b-8738-b3664559e46f&displaylang=en Execute From CMD : ESMVISTA.MSI /passive and....Run from windows 7 x32 That's all folks! Si no funciona me avisan, por que a mi si me funciono.! Micky Thanks! This worked for me!
May 18th, 2011 3:03pm
Well, the test seem to worked out great, no issues or errors when adding users in ADUC.... For more details go to http://nwcalc.web44.net/Win7/ Will That modified version is perfect ! It's crazy that Microsoft did not released this version (or equivalent) already ! Many thanks :)
June 6th, 2011 5:17am
Sorry but yes! If you use the modified version found here http://nwcalc.web44.net/Win7/
June 6th, 2011 5:19am
Download the vista tools from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3403d74e-8942-421b-8738-b3664559e46f&displaylang=en Then run the .msi from an administrator dos window with the following command. MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /Q When run in silent mode it wont pop up the box saying that this product is only for vista. This allows you to continue the installation. I have a Windows 7 32bit, and i had trouble even though i installed the compability pack as suggested in earlier posts. Didn't work. Then i saw this post and i tried that out. But it didn't install, but didn't turn up with any errors either. I added /passive to the command to see statusbar, and then the install started. I got prompted 2 times, pressing OK button, but it did the job ( MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /quiet /passive ). Now i have fuld useradd capabilities with Exchange Regards Joen
July 19th, 2011 6:49am
So, end result is, For Windows 7 x64-bit: Can view Exchange System Manager and it's tabs with /32, but you loose the Remote Desktop Services Profile Tabs.... or Can view Remote Desktop Services Profile Tabs, but you loose Exchange System Manager cusae it doesn't run in native x64-bit. So I have to use two sets of MMC's to get the job done. Not the end of the world, but I'd have to say, we're not advancing, we're going backwards for Admin tools access. So, I ask one more time, Anyone have all the Tabs (ESM + RDSP Tab) working together in Windows 7 x64-bit edition? Just want a stern Yes + solution or No....Thanks in advance all!!!....
August 18th, 2011 1:08pm
FOR 64 BIT Just do the following 1. install RSAT on your WIN 7 x64 machine 2. Add your RSAT consoles via CONTORL PANEL programs and features 3. Install ESMVISTA using the MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /Q or ESMVISTA.MSI /passive 4. Open you ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS folder and right click on Active Directry Users and Computers (ADUC) and choose properties 5. Add /32 to the end of the TARGET field, it should look like this "%SystemtRoot%\system32\dsa.msc /32" 6. Click ok and you should be good to go...it worked for me tabs and all. PERFEITO!

November 4th, 2011 1:34pm
FOR 64 BIT Just do the following 1. install RSAT on your WIN 7 x64 machine 2. Add your RSAT consoles via CONTORL PANEL programs and features 3. Install ESMVISTA using the MSIEXEC /I ESMVISTA.MSI /Q or ESMVISTA.MSI /passive 4. Add /32 to the end of the TARGET field, it should look like this "%SystemtRoot%\system32\dsa.msc /32" 6. Click ok and you should be good to go...it worked for me tabs and all. This solution works for me, BUT, I cannot create a new user with a mailbox, or move a mailbox etc, as it does not show nay of the mail stores to be able to create a mailbox. Is this the same for everyone else with 64bit Win7? or is it just me?
