Exchange 2003 Mailbox store restore to SBS 2003 R2
Hi All, This may a really easy to answer and I cannot think why it wont work but I might be missing something fundamental here goes:- Can we restore our production Exchange 2003 mailbox store to a freestanding SBS 2003 R2 server. Are there any issues I should be aware of or work arounds? Thanks for any assistance C McK.

I want to say that you cannot (or at least it isn't supported), because of the crazy nuances with SBS, however you could always try a test restore using a recovery storage group. That'd let you know for sure.

John, Thanks for taking the time are you sure that this is not supported or has it just never been thought of as a possibility, we are hoping to use this as a DR solution to assist with our small environment instead of rebuild everything from scratch at the DR site to compress our production environment to the offering of SBS. Obviously the requirement to still be supported should we have issues is fairly important. Pls let me know your further comments. Chow Clinton

Based on past experiences with SBS I'm taking a well educated guess that it is not supported, however you could always call PSS and ask. Is it not an option to do test restores? I'd reccomend doing test restores at least twice per year anyway as a best practice. Also, for DR have you thought of using exchange 2007 with CCR+SCR ? www.msexchangeteam.com
