Exchange 2003 Mailbox restore after migration
I attempting to restore an Exchange 2003 mailbox from fall of 2011, all users were migrated to Exchange 2010 that resides in a resource forest. The Exchange 2003 environment still is up and running as several service accounts are still needed until retired. The database for the user is restored and mounted in Exchnage 2003 in a recovery storage group. When using EXMERGE to export the mailbox to a PST the operation fails with following error in the EXMERGE log file "Error opening message store (MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d)" The account used to run EXMERGE is setup with full permissions to the Exchange Store and no deny's, the user is also not a member of Exchange Admin groups. Since the user's Exchange mailbox has been migrated to Exchnage 2010 in the Resource Forest, the account does not have the Exchange Security options listed in ADUC's. Serveral sites indicated using ADSI EDIT to use the DN from the Exchange 2010 DB and apply to the msexchOrigMDB for the Recovered DB but that does not appear to work since the Exchange 2010 MB resides in a resource forest. Is there a way to export the restored mailbox to a PST?

Since the accounts have been migrated to 2010 you will need to access the offline EDB via a 3rd party utility like Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which will then let you open that offline 2003 Database so that you can Browse, Search, Export Mailboxes, Folders and Items to PST & MSG or if desired you can import/migrate data direct from the offline database into any Production Exchange server, even cross version i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 etc Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope
