Exchange 2003 GAL shows all users - even those with no SMTP address?
Greetings all. I have a weird problem. The customer has an Exchange 2003 SP2 server - one server only. AD is on a separate server 2003 box. Generally everything is working fine however the customer asked why - in their Outlook 2003 client - when they go to the address book and view the GAL they see *all* users in their AD - even the ones with no SMTP address? Puzzled, I checked the GAL from OWA and it displays just fine. I also did a preview inside ESM and it shows up correctly. I tried various things and eventually discovered that this Outlook 2003 was not configured for cached mode so I turned it on. When I turned on cached mode the GAL displays only valid users with email addresses. I turn cached mode off and every user in AD appears in the address book from this client? Again, it doesn't happen from OWA nor does the GAL preview in ESM show anything strange. I've never run into this before. Any ideas? What is causing the GAL to display that way from Outlook 2003 but no anywhere else and only when cached mode is off? I've seen many many problem where the GAL lacks information or takes a while to pick up a user - I've never seen a case where it shows everything? Thanks for your help.

This user (who doesnt have a SMTP). was it recently disabled? or can you check from adsiedit and see if that account has any exchange related attribute in there? duplicate post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/85ab3f45-996b-4b41-a018-daf018354f46Thiyagu | MCTS/MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE 2003[Messaging] | http://www.myExchangeWorld.com. While they may not have a SMTP address, do they have a populated "mail" attribute? Or is the proxyAddresses property populated? --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, Is this issue occurred on all Outlook client side? Did you test this issue on another computer? Please try to recreate Outlook profile to check this issue. Thanks Allen
