Exchange 2003 GAL Entries...Without Email Addresses
They must be mail-enabled to be seen in the GAL. Just give them some dummy e-mail address like Peoria@clownpenis.fart.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

I maintain an Exchange 2003 SP2 environment with front and back-end servers. A few hundred mailboxes, a handful of clients, and a number of distribution lists (both query-based and standard). All in all, nothing fancy. I was recently asked to create entries in the GAL for a number of distribution centers in our company, the idea being to get addressing and telephone info loaded into the GAL for tertiary systems which reference AD via LDAP (our ShoreTel phone system, for example). However, the distribution centers don't have email addresses; therefore, their entries were created in ADU&C as contact objects without mailboxes (no need). Unfortunately, it seems that this keeps them from showing up in the GAL. I know, I know - Of COURSE they're not showing up in the GAL! They don't have email addresses, right? Makes sense, but it begs the question: Is there any way to add an entry into the GAL if that entry does not have an email address? When you think about it, even though the GAL lives in Exchange, it contains a lot of info that isn't email-related, so it kind of makes sense to me that not everything that gets loaded in there should have to have an email address. Anyway, I've had a rough time finding a solution online. Even if it turns out that it can't be done, I'm fine with that, so long as I can reference an official MS document to back up the claim. If anyone has any thoughts, let me know. Thanks! -Bob

Hi Bob, As far as I know, only mail-enabled can be seen in GAL. For your issue, you can create one address list, only filter that not mail-enabled contacts, then users can go to find that contacts under new created address list. Thanks, Evan Evan Liu TechNet Community Support Evan, Will this solution not result in the entries showing up in the GAL 'proper'? I ask because in this particular case, the entries absolutely must appear in the GAL itself or our collateral systems won't pick them up. Thanks, Bob

If so, you can follow Ed' suggestion to do that, only mail-enabled entries can be seen in GAL. Thanks, EvanEvan Liu TechNet Community Support
