Exchange 2003 Distribution List - Similar names
We have a unique situation we are trying to figure out. Whenever there are two users that share a First and Last name attribute and are both a member of the same Exchange Universal Distribution List, one of the users will not receive the e-mail sent to the DL. This will occur even if the user's middle initial is used in any of the applicable AD account properties and the smtp address are different. Example: Roger P. Webb (roger.p.webb@mycompany.com) and Roger E. Webb (roger.e.webb@mycompany.com). In our testing we have determined the following: - It happens in all DLs where the two users are members. - The order that the user was added to the DL determines whether or not they receive the e-mail with the user added first receives it ok. When the first user is removed and then re-added, the other user begings receiving the e-mail. - Message tracking in ESM only reflects the successful delivery of one e-mail. Note: We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 in a 4+1 Exchange Clustered environment. Approximately 10,000 user mailboxes. Has anyone experienced this phenomena? Any ideas or suggestions on how to proceed with further troubleshooting? Thx, Wkndhkr

I tested the same naming rule as yours in my local VM (roger.p.webb@lab.com/roger.e.webb@lab.com) [Environment is exchange 2003 SP2, FE/BE, windows 2003 enterprise] It's working, the following is detailed steps: 1. Go to ADUC 2. Right-click the column which you want to create DL->new->group 3. Choose "Security" in "Group type", choose "Universal" in "Group scope" 4. create mailbox and finish 5. Right-click the DL you just create->"Members" tab->add those two "Roger" users 6. Now send test mail to DL Notes: I also tried "Query-based Distribution Group", it's also working well. Workaround: please try to use different naming rules, like roger.webb.1@lab.com , roger.webb.2@lab.com etc... Heres also a KB for DL troubleshooting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839949
